New Omoda C7 launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Omoda has officially launched the new C7 in South Africa.

The C7 is the brand’s new mid-range SUV, slotting in between the smaller C5 and the flagship C9.

It is available in three specifications, including a range-topping plug-in hybrid, and prices start at R539,900.

Engine

The C7 is split into three variants: the Luxury, Elegance, and SHS.

The Luxury and Elegance are fitted with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that sends 145kW and 290Nm down to the front wheels.

Gear changes are handled by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which helps it to achieve an average fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km.

Alternatively, you can pick up the SHS (Super Hybrid System), which pairs a smaller 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor.

This setup generates a substantial 255kW and 525Nm, which is sent to the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission.

Powering the e-motor is an 18.4kWh battery, which affords an all-electric driving range of 105km.

Combined with the petrol tank, the C7 can travel 1,200km before needing to top up both power sources.

Speaking of, the battery can be recharged from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes when using a 40kW DC fast charger.

It also supports 6.6kW AC charging speeds, which will replenish the cells from25% to 100% in around two hours and 40 minutes.

Regardless of the version you choose, the Omoda comes with driving modes for Normal, Eco, and Sport, allowing owners to adjust the vehicle’s responsiveness to prioritise efficiency or performance.

Features

Visually, the C7 opts for a distinctive “X-shaped frameless grille” comprised of several hexagons, which is flanked on either side by slim LED headlights and daytime running lights.

It also has red brake callipers for a bit of sporty flair, and lightning bolt-themed LED taillights at the back.

The Luxury and Elegance come standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, while the SHS has larger 20-inch rims.

Inside, Omoda has gone with a minimalist interior with black leather upholstery, an 8.8-inch digital driver display, and a floating 15.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The front seats are electronically adjustable with heating and ventilation, and the driver’s seat has memory settings for multiple users.

Other features include dual-zone climate control, a 50W wireless charging pad, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a sunroof.

The petrol units come with an eight-speaker Sony stereo, which is upgraded to 12 speakers on the SHS.

Furthermore, the C7 is fitted with up to 21 advanced driver assistance assistance systems, including:

  • 540-degree panoramic camera
  • Blind Spot Detection
