Big upgrade for the Omoda C5 in South Africa – Pricing

Omoda has updated the C5 for South Africa, upgrading the two lower trim levels to bring them closer to the facelifted X Series that were introduced earlier this year.

The base Street and mid-range Style models have been upgraded to the new Street+ and Style X, boasting improvements to their performance, looks, and features.

The Street+ and Style X start at R339,900 and R374,900, respectively, making them R10,000 more expensive than the previous versions.

Engine

The biggest change to the C5 is that the entry-level Street+ now features the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the rest of the series.

The Street previously had a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated block with 83kW and 115Nm, but thanks to the turbo, it now produces 115kW and 230Nm.

Not only is the crossover significantly more powerful, but its average fuel consumption has been reduced from 7.3l to 6.9l/100km thanks to the more efficient drivetrain.

The Street+ still uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with two driving modes for Eco and Sport.

It also features a MacPherson front and torsion beam rear suspension setup.

The same cannot be said of the new Style X, which has been upgraded to match the other two X-badged models.

The CVT is replaced with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and it uses a new multilink rear suspension system.

Features

Standard kit on the new C5 Street+ includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, heated side mirrors, keyless entry and start, black cloth seats, automatic air conditioning, six speakers, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It also has cruise control, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and four airbags.

As for the Style X, it benefits from the facelifted body seen on the Lux X and Elegance X, meaning it has a new black grille, LED headlights instead of halogen, and a larger 442-litre boot compared to the old 378-litre one.

When the rear seats are folded, the total storage capacity increases to 1,149 litres.

It has also received new Sports seats and a leather multifunction steering wheel.
