New Lexus LX hybrid SUV launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Lexus has launched the new LX 700h Urban in South Africa.

The Urban is positioned as the penultimate model in the carmaker’s flagship SUV series, slotting between the 700h F Sport and the 700h Overtrail.

It has a starting price of R2,746,300, making it the second most expensive Lexus in the country.

Powertrain

The 700h is a hybrid that combines a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with an electric motor.

The combustion engine produces 305kW and 650Nm by itself, while the e-motor can summon an additional 36kW and 250Nm.

Putting these systems together results in an impressive output of 341kW and 790Nm, making it the most powerful LX model to date.

This lets the SUV accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in roughly 6.5 seconds despite weighing over three tonnes.

Gear changes are handled by a 10-speed automatic transmission, which connects to an all-wheel-drive system with a centre differential lock.

It also has an average fuel consumption of 10.0l/100km.

Features

As you’d expect, the seven-seater comes with all manner of features, starting with chrome, stainless steel, and Shimamoku wood finishes.

It also has adaptive LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, a hands-free tailgate, and 22-inch alloy wheels.

As a reminder, the Overtrail uses smaller 18-inch alloys to accommodate larger tyres better suited for off-roading.

Colour options include White Quartz, Sonic Titanium, Manganese Luster, Terrane Khaki and Graphite Black, though more will be available through customer orders.

The Lexus is equipped with a dual infotainment system, keyless entry and start with fingerprint identification, semi-aniline leather upholstery, climate control, electric front seats with heating and ventilation, a heated leather and wood steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a 25-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

Driving aids come in the form of a pre-collision system with pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, turn assist, and emergency steering assist with evasive manoeuvring.
