New Renault Captur launched in South Africa – Pricing and features
Renault has officially launched the new Captur in South Africa.
Unveiled more than a year ago, the French crossover has received a substantial facelift with a new appearance and an updated equipment sheet.
The new Captur is available in three specifications, and prices start at R515,999.
Engine
The Captur is powered by a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which generates a total of 113kW and 270Nm.
This is sent down to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
As a result, the crossover achieves an average fuel economy of 6.6l/100km.
It also has four “Multi-Sense” driving modes – Comfort, Eco, Sport and Perso – which Renault says have been revised to deliver an optimal driving experience by adjusting the steering effort, engine response, and chassis to match the desired outcome.
Features
Visually, the French car has received a redesigned grille with a horizontal air intake and an aerodynamic splitter, a new front bumper, LED headlights with a welcome animation, and “half-diamond” shaped LED daytime running lights meant to resemble the company’s logo.
The taillight housing is now transparent, showing the inside of the lamps, and it has a new rear logo and diffuser at the back.
It also has a two-tone paint scheme, and a set of new alloy wheels that range in size from 17 to 19 inches, depending on the trim level.
The base Techno has 17-inch alloys and a matt black finish on the lower body and skid plates, while the mid-range Iconic has 18-inch “Black Hole” rims with high-gloss black finishes.
The range-topping Esprit Alpine, meanwhile, has 19-inch “Elixir” wheels with Slate Grey matt finishes.
Colour options on the Captur include Arctic White, Flame Red, Iron Blue, Oyster Grey, and the new Urban Grey.
Inside, the dashboard boasts a new OpenR Link multimedia system with a digital driver display and a 10.4-inch vertical touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Key functions, like the automatic air conditioning, can be accessed via a series of piano keys located below the infotainment screen.
The new upholstery is made from recycled fabrics and bio-sourced materials like grained covers and hemp.
The Esprit version also has a number of unique add-ons like aluminium sports pedals, blue top stitching for the seatbelts, branded door sills, an ergonomic multifunction steering wheel, and French flags dotted around the cabin to evoke the Alpine brand.
Boot space clocks in at 616 litres, which expands to 1,596 litres when the rear seats are folded.
The crossover also features ambient lighting, which changes colour to match the selected driving mode.
Driving aids included on the Renault include cruise control, a speed limiter, blind spot detection, hill start assist, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.
