New JAC T6 single cab goes on sale South Africa – Pricing and features

JAC has announced the launch of its single-cab T6 bakkie, a value-for-money workhorse ready to take on South Africa’s hotly contested bakkie market.

Its double-cab variant has already been available in South Africa for years.

The T6 single-cab bakkie has also been available for a while, although only in left-hand-drive markets, and will now be available globally as a right-hand-drive offering.

“Our new T6 single-cab workhorse is a rugged, value-for-money all-rounder, combining comfort with a proven, fuel-efficient turbo-diesel engine,” said Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa.

“Its versatility suits urban, open-road and demanding fleet applications, meeting transport operators’ and entrepreneurs’ needs for durability, dependability and low maintenance costs.”

The T6 single-cab is available in two specifications, with prices starting at R299,900.

Features

Standard features on the bakkie include power steering, manual air conditioning, electric windows, and a height-adjustable, leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel.

Safety features on the T6 comprise dual airbags, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, as well as 4-channel ABS and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).

Other handy features include electrically adjustable side mirrors with indicators, halogen headlamps, a high-mounted stop lamp, rear fog lamps, a driver’s seatbelt alarm and headlight levelling functionality.

It also has an immobiliser, multi-information display, remote entry, central locking with speed-sensing door locks, and rear park distance sensors come standard.

The Lux derivative additionally comes with a reverse camera and leatherette trim.

This version has a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, while the T6 Comfort features a radio and MP3 player with Bluetooth.

Both trim levels include a USB and 12V power socket, housed in a closable centre console compartment.

Engine and performance

The T6 single-cab is powered by JAC’s 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, which is also found in the T8 models available since 2023.

The bakkie is capable of producing power outputs of up to 102kW, as well as 320Nm torque, which it delivers to the back wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

Thanks to its average fuel consumption of 6.9l/100km, the bakkie’s 76-litre tank provides an approximate range of over 1,100 kilometres.

“The T6’s fuel consumption is exceptional, as its low torque curve enables earlier shifts and fewer gear changes,” says Göbel.

“In local combined-cycle testing, we recorded consumption as low as 6.1l/100km, and just 8.0l/100km with a 750 kg load.”

The T6 single-cab is 5,315mm long, 1,830mm wide, and 1,815mm high, with a 3,090mm wheelbase, 197mm of ground clearance and a 6.2m turning radius.

It is capable of carrying payloads up to 1,000kg in its 2,260mm × 1,520mm × 470mm load box, and is rated for a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,400kg.

Pricing

Pricing for the single-cab T6 in South Africa is as follows:

  • JAC T6 2.0L CTi 4×2 Comfort – R299,900
  • JAC T6 2.0L CTi 4×2 Lux – R314,900
