Mercedes-Benz launches new special-edition GLA in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mercedes-Benz has launched a new special-edition model for the GLA in South Africa.

The newest member of the GLA family is the Night Edition, which adds a number of new cosmetics and sporty details to give it a unique presence out on the roads.

“Mercedes-Benz South Africa is proud to announce the arrival of the GLA Night Edition,” said the company.

“This special edition brings a new level of urban sophistication and rugged elegance to the premier compact SUV, combining the versatility of the GLA with a monochromatic, high-performance aesthetic.”

Features

Based on the AMG Line trim level, the new Night Edition features a MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey paint job that is exclusive to this model.

It also has a set of bespoke alloy wheels borrowed from the carmaker’s coveted AMG performance division.

Other details include new gloss black accents for the wing mirrors, window surrounds, and roof rails, adding to the dark theme of the special-edition nameplate.

Additionally, the GLA comes with automatic LED headlamps, a sporty rear diffuser, and LED taillights.

Inside, the Mercedes has a dual-screen command centre comprised of a digital driver display and a 10.25-inch infotainment system.

The touchscreen runs on the brand’s latest MBUX software, and supports voice commands.

The cabin also features three round turbine-look air vents and a compact Nappa leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters.

Mercedes added that several extras have been made standard on this new model, including the Parking Package with a reverse camera, lumbar support seats, and the Mirror Package with an auto-dimming rearview mirror and auto-folding wing mirrors.

Engine

The Night Edition uses the GLA200 powertrain, which means it is fitted with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 120kW and 270Nm.

This power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

This lets the GLA accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 210km.

Fuel consumption works out to an average of 7.3l/100km.
