New special-edition Mercedes-Benz CLA goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing
Following the launch of other special edition models for South Africa, Mercedes-Benz has launched its special-edition CLA Night Edition.
This cosmetic upgrade to the four-door coupé sees the model refinished in a striking grey colour and gloss black accents.
“The CLA has always been our design statement for the compact segment,” said Alexandra Boavida, Vice-Principal of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz South Africa.
“The Night Edition in Alpine Grey takes that statement and gives it a rebellious, high-fashion edge that our South African customers crave.”
Features
According to Mercedes, Night Edition takes the CLA’s avant-garde design to a darker, more sophisticated level, blending the sleek silhouette of a sports car with an unmistakable presence.
Its exclusive MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey finish highlights its “sharpened profile” and elongated, flowing lines, as its AMG alloy wheels provide a unique visual signature.
Included in the Night Package is an expansive range of high-gloss black elements, which extend to the exterior mirror housings, window line trim strips, and the CLA’s star-pattern radiator grille louvre.
Standard on the Night Edition is Mercedes’ Mirror Package, and high-performance automatic LED headlamps with adaptive high beam assist.
In keeping with the CLA’s distinctive look, the German carmaker opted to keep AMG Line body styling features to ensure the coupé maintains its aggressive stance and forward-sloping “shark nose”.
The Night Edition features a tech-focused cabin, which Mercedes claims is designed to resemble a futuristic building at night.
Its floating widescreen cockpit features a dual-screen infotainment display, featuring a 10.25-inch central touchscreen and the latest generation of MBUX.
Mercedes also fitted the special edition with a compact Nappa leather steering wheel and sports seats to create what it calls “a direct connection between driver and machine”.
A 64-colour ambient lighting system and silver chrome air vents that resemble turbines create an enhanced interior ambience.
Engine

The CLA Night Edition is fitted with a CLA200 motor, making use of its 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is assisted by 48V mild-hybrid technology and produces 120kW and 270Nm of torque.
It sends power to its front wheels using a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, guaranteeing a highly responsive drive.
Combined, this setup allows the CLA to get from standstill to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 229km/h.
The CLA, and subsequently the Night Edition, claims an average fuel consumption of 5.5l/100km.
