New limited-edition Ford Ranger for South Africa – Pricing and features

Ford has announced that it is launching a new “limited-edition Ranger” in South Africa.

More specifically, the company has introduced the new Upgrade Pack 6 for the mid-range XLT trim level, along with a unique Chill Grey paint scheme.

This option will be limited to a production run of just 250 units, making it one of the exclusive Rangers in the country.

The price of the bespoke upgrade is R58,600 (including VAT), meaning that the cheapest XLT double cab with this option costs R741,100.

Features

In addition to their new paint job, the exclusive XLT units are equipped with a sports bar, black side mirrors and door handles, and 17-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres.

The bakkie also comes with underbody protection to enhance its off-road capabilities.

Inside, you’ll find leather seats, a leather multifunction steering wheel, and a leather gearknob, as well as a wireless charger and accessory switches.

It also features a comprehensive driving assistance suite with collision mitigation, post-impact braking, lane-keep assist, and blind spot detection.

All of this is in addition to the Ranger’s standard toolkit, which includes automatic LED headlights, C-shaped LED daytime running lights, keyless entry and start, automatic climate control, cruise control, a digital driver display, a portrait Sync4 infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and seven airbags.

Engine

Ford has not clarified which versions of the XLT are available with the upgrade, so we assume it is offered in both the 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel and bi-turbo diesel double cabs.

The single turbo Ranger produces 125kW and 405Nm, and is fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

It is available in either rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km and 7.7l/100km, respectively.

The alternative is the bi-turbo, which generates a hefty 154kW and 500Nm.

This option is exclusively sold with a 10-speed automatic shifter, though buyers still have a choice between RWD and 4WD.

The RWD model consumes 7.2l/100km, while the 4WD units use 7.5l/100km.

Regardless of the version you choose, the Ford can tow 3,500kg and haul approximately 930kg in the load bin.
