New luxury sedan in South Africa – Pricing revealed

The pricing for the new Volvo ES90 has been uncovered ahead of its imminent launch in South Africa.

The ES90 sedan is one of two new products the Swedish carmaker has lined up for our market this year – the other being the EX60 SUV.

Volvo previously confirmed that the all-electric sedan will launch in South Africa in the first quarter of 2026, meaning it should be in showrooms by the end of the month.

According to our sources at Douporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the ES90 will be made available in three trim levels with prices starting at R1,590,000.

Powertrain

For now, it appears that the ES90 will be exclusively sold in a Single Motor specification, though this will likely be supplemented by the more powerful Twin Motor units at a later date.

As the name implies, the Single Motor has one electric motor over the rear axle, which develops 245kW and 480Nm.

This lets the upmarket sedan accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a brisk 6.9 seconds, putting it in the same territory as the VW Polo GTI hot hatch.

It also has a top speed of 180km/h.

Power is sourced from a 92kWh battery, which provides a driving range of up to 755km.

Features

Volvo has already disclosed the key features for the car’s three trim levels – the Core, Plus, and Ultra.

The entry-level Core will come with four-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, Dark Matter décor cabin finishes, a large portrait infotainment screen, a heads-up display, and an electric tailgate.

The front seats are electronically adjustable with heating and two-way lumbar support, and are covered in eco-friendly Nordico (a leather-free material made from recycled materials like cork and bio-attributed PVC).

It also features a variety of driving aids comprising a rearview camera, rain sensor, Park Assist Pilot, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and run-off road mitigation.

One step up from this is the Plus, which adds upholstery colour options, an air purification system, ventilated Nordico or Nappa leather seats, four-way lumbar support, improved ambient lighting, an optional 360-degree camera, and optionally ventilated rear seats.

The range-topping Ultra takes things even further with tinted windows, an electrochromatic panoramic roof, laminated side and rear window glass, soft-close doors, Zinc Tailored Wool Blend upholstery, massage front seats, reclining rear seats, and the 360-degree camera as standard.
