New Suzuki Across in South Africa – Pricing revealed

Suzuki has announced the pricing for the new Across SUV, which is scheduled to launch in South Africa by the end of the month.

The Across is set to become the brand’s new flagship product in South Africa, claiming the title from the Grand Vitara.

“Designed to be by your side no matter what, the Across is the latest model set to join Suzuki Auto South Africa’s diverse product range,” said the company.

“The Japanese brand’s most advanced SUV yet, it combines stylish good looks with cutting-edge technology, advanced safety features, an efficient mild-hybrid petrol engine, and family-friendly space and practicality.”

It will be made available in three specifications, and prices will start at R349,900.

What to expect

The Across, which is made in India, will be sold in two trim levels – the GL and GLX – with a choice of either a manual or automatic gearbox for the former.

All three versions are powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, which produces 76kW and 139Nm.

On the GL, buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or a six-speed auto shifter, which sends power to the front wheels.

The range-topping GLX model is exclusively sold with the automatic.

Thanks to its mild hybrid underpinnings, it achieves a rather frugal average fuel consumption of 4.8l/100km.

In its home market, the Across is also sold with an AllGrip four-wheel-drive option, but it appears this will not be offered in South Africa at launch.

Suzuki has yet to disclose the full spec sheet for each trim level, but we can take an educated guess by looking at the equipment found on the units found in India.

Assuming South Africa receives the same kit, motorists can expect LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, customisable ambient lighting, heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof, provided you grab the GLX.

It also features a a 10-inch digital driver display and a 10-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Furthermore, the SUV is available with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection, and a 360-degree camera system.
