New Chery Tiggo Cross unveiled for South Africa – And it’s R80,000 cheaper

Following the local success of its Tiggo range, Chery has announced two new Tiggo Cross models launching in South Africa later this month.

These will be updated versions of both the Tiggo Cross LiT MT and CVT, which have received significant safety and comfort upgrades.

“With these upgrades, the Tiggo 4 Cross MT and CVT deliver even greater value to our customers, offering enhanced features while maintaining the same recommended retail price,” says Jay Jay Botes, General Manager of Chery South Africa.

“These updated vehicles are the result of our continuous pursuit of excellence through innovation, reflecting our commitment to quality engineering and delivering exceptional value to customers”.

Pricing for the new Tiggo Cross range starts at R279,900, making it a staggering R80,000 less than the previous base model – the Million Edition – which asks for R359,900.

Features

The two new Tiggo Cross models will feature advanced lighting upgrades, which include bright LED headlights and full-width rear lights for better night-time visibility, while giving the car a futuristic look.

In terms of safety upgrades, Chery has added side airbags in the front, seatbelt pre-tensioners, and passenger seatbelt reminders.

Joining these updates are smart cruise control and electrically heated side mirrors, aimed at aiding drivers and increasing driver and occupant protection.

Now also standard on the new Tiggo Cross models is a new rear-view camera, delivering greater visibility and confidence when reversing.

In the cabin, Chery has enhanced comfort, adding faux leather seats, a rear centre armrest and a driver’s footrest in the CVT models, allowing for relaxed long drives.

Enhancing both models’ infotainment offering are two 10.25-inch digital screens, aimed at giving the cabin a sleek, high-tech look, while remaining clear and easy to read.

Drivers and passengers can enjoy wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, keyless one-touch start, and a smart voice assistant.

Both models have also received upgrades to their audio systems, offering motorists a richer overall entertainment experience.

Engine

While the latest editions of the Chery Tiggo Cross have received both interior and exterior upgrades, these models are fitted with the familiar 1.5-litre petrol motors found in much of Chery’s line-up.

The engine produces 83kW and 170Nm, and is coupled with either a five-speed manual or a variable automatic transmission.

Manual models boast a fuel economy of 7.0l/100km, while the automatic variants are slightly less efficient at 7.3l/100km.
