New Mitsubishi Destinator in South Africa – Pricing revealed

While yet to be officially confirmed by Mitsubishi, prices for the all-new family SUV have been spotted online.

The Destinator is confirmed to arrive in South Africa later this month, and will form part of Mitsubishi’s growing local line-up, which includes the Triton bakkie, Xpander Cross and Outlander Sport that arrived last year.

Hailing from the same Indonesian factory as the latter two, the Destinator will become the brand’s most affordable seven-seat SUV.

“With its bold capabilities and versatile design, we are excited to help our customers embark on new journeys while strengthening our presence in the compact SUV segment.”

Listings online reveal the entry-level Destinator GLS will demand R489,990, while the top-spec Exceed will cost R569,990.

The SUV is also listed on Mitsubishi’s local website, expecting buyers to part with R7,150 per month on a finance plan.

What to expect

At launch, both dervatives will be offered with Mitubishi’s turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol drivetrains, good for 120kW and 250Nm, sent to the the front wheels via its CVT gearbox.

For adventurous drivers, the Destinator boasts five drive modes – Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud, Tarmac – as well as a ‘rally-bred’ Active Yaw Control.

This system manages torque distribution between left and right wheels to improve cornering stability and performance.

Its exterior features 18-inch dark grey alloy wheels, upgraded to machine-cut alloys in the Exceed, a honeycomb-patterned inner grille behind a transparent acrylic surface, framed by Mitsubishi’s T-shaped LED lighting.

Both models feature a rear spoiler, while the Exceed adds an electric panoramic sunroof, as well as a roof rail.

As a family-focused SUV, the Destinator seats seven with ample headroom across all three rows, wrapped in soft-touch materials and fabric seat, upgraded to synthetic leather seats in the Exceed.

The GLS features hands-free and voice control, rearview camera, a 4.2-inch multi-information driver display joined by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with USB connectivity and six speakers.

This model is also fitted with a manual dimming rearview mirror, and manual climate control.

In the Exceed, features have been upgraded to include a power adjustable driver seat, 8-inch digital driver display, a 12.3-inch infotainment unit, a 360-degree camera with front and rear parking sensors and dual zone auto climate control.

Further upgrades include a multi-colour ambient lighting system for the nstrument panel, front and
rear door panels, an 8-speaker Yamaha Premium sound system, cruise control, a cooling floor console box, wireless smartphone charger, hands-free power tailgate with close and lock and height memory.

Safety features include six airbags, active and passive ADAS systems, including active stability control electronic brake distribution, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, traction control, and hill start assist.

Pricing

Prices for the two Destinator models launching in South Africa is as follows:

  • Mitsubishi Destinator 1.5T GLS CVT – R489,990
  • Mitsubishi Destinator 1.5T Exceed CVT – R569,990

These prices include Mitsubishi’s 5-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and a 5-year/75,000km service plan.
