New Citroen Basalt in South Africa – Pricing revealed

The pricing for the new Citroen Basalt has been uncovered ahead of its imminent launch in South Africa.

The Basalt is a new crossover coupe that the company says is positioned somewhere between a traditional hatchback and an SUV, and was developed for buyers searching for space and presence, as well as efficiency and accessibility.

Citroen previously confirmed that the Basalt would launch in South Africa by the end of the first quarter of 2026, meaning it will appear in showrooms by the end of this month.

Now, our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists have revealed that the crossover will be made available in two specifications with prices starting at R354,900.

Engine

The Basalt is fitted with the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the Aircross, which produces 81kW and 205Nm.

It is front-wheel-drive, and both versions of the crossover feature a six-speed automatic gearbox.

As a result, the Citroen achieves an average fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km.

Features

The Basalt is a crossover coupe with a sleek two-tone roofline that slopes down at the back towards the taillights.

It comes standard with LED headlights, Y-shaped LED daytime running lights, electric side mirrors, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The vehicle itself is 4,352mm long with 180mm of ground clearance, and it has a 470-litre boot.

It is available in two trim levels – Plus and Max – the former of which comes with keyless entry and start, a multifunction steering wheel, automatic air conditioning, cloth seats, USB ports, four speakers, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, and a 10-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It also has safety and assistance features in the form of electronic stability control, cruise control, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, and six airbags.

The top-end Max units, meanwhile, add to this list with a leather steering wheel, a sharfin antenna, two extra tweeter speakers, an electrochromatic rearview mirror, and a reverse camera.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the new Citroen Basalt is as follows:

This includes a 5-year/100,000km warranty and a 4-year/60,000km service plan.
