New Ford Territory coming to South Africa very soon – What to expect

Ford has just announced that the facelifted Territory will launch in South Africa very soon.

The Blue Oval confirmed that the SUV will go on sale “in the coming weeks” and that it will “build on the success of the outgoing model with an enhanced design, smart technology and an even stronger value proposition for local customers.”

Since it is an update and not a new generation, the Territory will retain its existing powertrain.

This takes the form of a 1.8-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine, which generates 138kW and 318Nm.

This is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 7.0l/100km.

A new look

Where the new car differs from its predecessor is in its appearance, as the 2026 model year has a much sleeker front end.

It has a new grille with horizontal chrome lines, replacing the black hexagonal mesh pattern seen on the existing units.

The headlights have also been reworked with much more prominent LED daytime running lights that curve up and around the grille on either side.

The Territory also has a more streamlined front bumper, and a new set of alloy wheel designs.

As far as we can tell, the back of the vehicle is unchanged.

One thing the company confirmed is that it will feature new exterior colour options, including Cactus Grey and Oasis Green.

The changes to the interior are quite subtle, as Ford appears to have replaced the faux wood finish on the door and dashboard trim with a new silver element.

It has also been shown with a new two-tone black-and-brown upholstery, which may replace the black-and-blue theme seen on the current models.

The dual driver and infotainment screens will presumably be updated to run on the brand’s latest Sync4 operating system, which should provide new graphics to interact with.

Overall, it seems to be a fairly minor update, which is fine considering that the Territory hasn’t been around for very long.

The first units were launched in 2024, coming in three trim levels called the Ambiente, Trend, and Titanium.

In 2025, the Blue Oval launched the limited Dark Edition, which ended up replacing the Titanium as the flagship of the series.

Right now, the Ford is available in three specifications with prices ranging from R594,500 to R734,000.

This actually makes it one of the more affordable midsize SUVs on the market, as the VW Tiguan starts at R668,100, while the Toyota RAV4 asks for a minimum of R719,800.

More information on the new Ford Territory, such as its pricing, model selection, and spec sheet, will be announced closer to its launch in South Africa.
