New Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Chery marque Jetour has unveiled the T2 i-DM in South Africa, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of the well-received SUV.

Having been introduced locally only last year, Jetour has already sold 4,587 units in six months, prompting the automaker to introduce not only the plug-in T2, but also a PHEV version of the T1.

The T2 i-DM’s R779,900 price tag makes it the most expensive model in the T2 line-up by about R75,000, and similarly priced to the GWM Haval H6 GT Ultra Luxury PHEV.

“The introduction of our PHEV models is an important strategic step for Jetour as we continue to balance sustainable mobility with meaningful user value,” said Nic Campbell, Vice President of Jetour South Africa.

“At the same time, in a market where energy costs continue to fluctuate, PHEVs offer real practical benefit by lowering fuel consumption and helping users reduce their day-to-day running costs”.

Powertrain

While the rest of the T2 series offers buyers a choice of two turbocharged petrol powertrains, a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre, the i-DM has been fitted with a 1.5-litre PHEV powertrain.

This configuration combines a turbocharged petrol motor with an electric one, allowing for an overall output of 265kW and 610Nm.

By comparison, the petrol-only variants are capable of 125kW and 270Nm, and 180kW and 375Nm, respectively, making the PHEV significantly more powerful.

Thanks to its 18.4 kWh battery, Jetour claims the T2 i-DM has a 90km electric-only range, while its claimed 1.1l/100km fuel consumption allows for a 1,200km combined driving range.

The i-DM energy management system allows for rapid DC charging, letting the T2 recharge from 30–80% in under 30 minutes.

According to Campbell, i-DM technology combines electric efficiency for everyday commuting and fuel-powered confidence for longer journeys.

Features

As an adventure SUV, the T2 i-DM carries the same ruggedness as the non-hybrid models, featuring the same boxy styling as the rest of the line-up.

Due to its designation as the series flagship, we can expect the PHEV to have an extensive spec sheet.

The top-of-the-range model comes standard with automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, and a panoramic sunroof.

Inside, owners can expect a leather multifunction steering wheel, artificial leather upholstery, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and an extensive tech suite.

This includes a wireless charging pad, a nine-speaker Sony stereo, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety and driver assistance features on the T2 include adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection, hill start assist, hill descent control, front and rear parking sensors, a 540-degree camera system, and six airbags.
