Audi launches new A1 in South Africa – Pricing and features

Audi has introduced the sportier S Line derivative to its expanded A1 Sportback line-up in South Africa.

The German automaker explained that the A1 is nearing the final phase of its lifecycle, but the S Line ensures that the range is supported through this stage with a well-balanced offering.

“The Audi A1 remains one of our top-selling models in the local market, and maintaining that momentum is a key focus for us,” says Markus Schuster, Head of Audi South Africa.

“With the S Line derivative, we are responding to this demand by strengthening the value proposition within the range, while continuing to offer the S Line design and features our customers value.”

The latest addition to the brand’s hatchback line-up is priced from R549,000 and expands the stable to three distinct derivatives – the Advanced, S Line, and Black Edition.

Performance

Audi has left the performance unchanged in the S Line, which features the same turbocharged 3-cylinder inline 1.0-litre TFSI petrol motor found in the rest of the A1 range.

This powertrain is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gear-swapper, which distributes its outputs of 85kW and 200Nm to the front wheels.

This allows the sporty hatch to sprint from 0-100km/h in 9.4 seconds, before topping out at 200km/h.

The A1 S Line is also extremely fuel-efficient despite its sporty nature, maintaining an average fuel consumption of 4.8l/100km.

Features

As the sporty centre-of-the-range offering, the S Line features a wider stance than the Advanced trimline, as well as distinct additions that distinguish it from the rest of the line-up.

This includes special S Line bumpers, an S Line roof spoiler, and S Line badging on the exterior panels, alongside full LED headlights with rear lights Plus, and unique 17-inch alloy wheels.

Stepping into the cabin, drivers can expect to see scuff plates with aluminium inserts with the “S line” logo, as well as black and grey accents and inlays throughout the cabin.

A multi-function leather steering wheel and manually adjustable sport seats for the driver and front passenger further enhance the S Line’s sporty look and feel.

In terms of technology, the A1 is well-equipped, featuring Audi’s virtual cockpit, which includes a fully digital 10.25-inch driver instrument display, joined by an 8.8-inch centre infotainment screen with smartphone integration.

Safety and driver assistance features include a sporty suspension, electronic stability control (ESC), six airbags, including front and curtain, hill start assist, programmable speed limiter, and an advanced driver attention and drowsiness monitor, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
