New Ford Everest confirmed for South Africa – What to expect

Ford has announced that it is expanding its SUV line-up in South Africa later this year, with the introduction of the all-new Everest Tremor.

The American badge confirmed that the SUV is a specialised new entry, designed for adventurous drivers who demand off-road performance.

Sunil Sewmohan, Director of Product Marketing for Ford South Africa, said the brand is excited to introduce the Tremor variant into the line-up.

“The addition of the Everest Tremor to this already popular range of SUVs answers customer demand for a more off-road capable model, due in part to the success of the equivalent Ranger Tremor,” he said.

“The Everest Tremor builds on the exceptional comfort, space, refinement and high-tech features offered in the Everest, while enabling adventurous owners to go further and conquer more challenging off-road terrain with confidence.”

Pricing and local specifications are yet to be confirmed, and will only become known closer to the Tremor’s fourth-quarter local launch.

A more rugged Everest

The Everest Tremor will be fitted with Ford’s powerful turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel motor found across the Ranger and Everest line-up, which delivers 184kW and 600Nm.

As a result, the SUV is well-suited for off-roading or even hauling heavy loads, thanks to its 3,500kg maximum braked towing capacity.

Further adventuring credentials include the fitment of specially developed off-road suspension, which incorporates Bilstein Position-Sensitive Dampers and new springs designed for challenging conditions.

Fitted as standard on the Tremor are General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres, which provide grip in a range of conditions, including gravel, rocks, sand and mud, while retaining on-road performance.

Ford explained that the off-road suspension and tyres unlock an additional 26mm of ground clearance compared to the standard Everest, enhancing the SUV’s “go-anywhere ability”.

The Tremor is also the only model in the Everest range equipped with the Rock Crawl drive mode, which optimises the vehicle’s traction and momentum on loose and rocky surfaces.

To ensure that the SUV looks the part of a rugged off-roader, Ford fitted the vehicle with a range of functional and design upgrades that set the Tremor apart from the rest of the range.

These updates include a distinctive honeycomb grille design with auxiliary LED lamps, a steel bash plate, heavy-duty side steps, and model-specific Tremor badging.

It will also share the unique Command Grey exterior colour, which is exclusive to the Tremor series, with the Ranger Tremor.

Ford confirmed that despite the rugged appeal of the SUV, it has not compromised on the Everest Tremor’s levels of premium quality, comfort and refinement.

As such, its cabin features Tremor-embossed leather-accented seats, ebony-coloured interior accents and durable all-weather floor mats.

Alongside these, buyers will be able to enjoy a suite of advanced features that include Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system, as well as a comprehensive range of safety features and technologies fitted as standard.
