New R360,000 Chinese crossover launched in South Africa

GAC has officially launched the new Emzoom Nova in South Africa.

The Nova is the new entry-level model for the Emzoom crossover series, coming in at a starting price of R359,900.

This makes it a staggering R90,000 cheaper than the mid-range Executive, which starts at R449,900.

“Built for drivers who refuse to compromise, this exciting new variant tears up the old rulebook, delivering premium futuristic styling, sports-car acceleration, and absolute, unmatched value for money,” said Salvador Caetano, the official distributor of GAC Motor in South Africa.

Engine

Despite being significantly cheaper, the new Nova is equipped with the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the rest of the series.

This gives the Chinese crossover an output of 130kW and 270Nm, making it the most powerful vehicle in its segment.

For comparison, the Omoda C5 and Jaecoo J5 produce 115kW and 230Nm, while the Toyota Urban Cruiser generates 77kW and 138Nm.

With this power, the GAC can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a brisk 8.0 seconds.

Gear changes are handled by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which sends power to the front wheels.

It also has three driving modes for Eco, Comfort, and Sport.

Regarding fuel consumption, the Emzoom achieves an average of 6.2l/100km.

Features

The Nova comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, electric side mirrors, and “hidden” door handles that blend into the bodywork when the car is locked.

There are six exterior colours to choose from: Fast Red, Graphene Grey, Moonlight Grey, Star Silver, Solid White, or Galaxy Lilac.

The cabin has a two-tone black-and-blue theme with seats that are a mix of fabric and synthetic leather.

The upholstery has a blue stitching pattern, and the polygonal air conditioning vents have blue accents.

On the dashboard, you’ll find a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

However, one key difference is that the Nova has an analogue instrument cluster while the other models have a digital driver display.

Other features on the crossover include keyless entry and start, a multifunction steering wheel, automatic aircon, cruise control, rear parking sensors, and hill-hold control.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the updated GAC Emzoom is as follows:

This includes a 5-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, a 2-year/30,000km service plan, and a lifetime engine warranty valid for the first owner.
