New limited edition VW Amarok for South Africa – Pricing and features
VW has expanded its local bakkie line-up, introducing a limited-edition Amarok trimline in South Africa – the Dark Label – which is available in two configurations.
The new trimline slots above the existing 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre Amarok Style models, with prices starting at R931,600, which is R35,000 more than the cheapest model.
“Based on the Amarok Style, the Dark Label derivative introduces a more distinctive and design-focused interpretation of the range,” the German automaker declared.
Powertrain
The special derivatives feature VW’s proven powertrain configurations, giving buyers a choice between a four-cylinder 2.0 TDI or a six-cylinder 3.0 TDI V6 engine.
The former produces 125kW and 405Nm, and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four driven wheels via its 10-speed automatic transmission.
This configuration lets the Dark Label reach a top speed of 180km/h and maintain an average diesel consumption of 7.7l/100km.
The V6 makes 184kW and 600Nm, yet features the same 10-speed automatic cogswapper found in its 2.0-litre sibling, as well as AWD.
It boasts a top speed of 180km/h, but is slightly less economical, with an average fuel consumption of 8.4l/100km.
Both bakkies are capable of hauling payloads over 1,000kg, as well as towing up to 3,500kg.
Features

True to its name, the Dark Label features darkened trims and features across the interior and exterior, starting with matt black lettering and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Its front apron, radiator grille, and underbody protection all feature black finishes, as does the derivative-specific lettering on the side panels.
The Amarok Dark Label is fitted with privacy glazing and dark rear side windows, matt black B-pillars and roof rails, as well as black exterior mirrors, steps and door handles.
At the rear, the bakkie receives a new black bumper, darkened taillights, a matte-black styling bar, dark rear window, and a blackened tailgate handle.
Inside, the Dark Label is fitted with dark ‘ArtVelours’ seats, black door panels, and a centre console and headliner finished in ‘Ebony Black’.
A special Dark Label emblem can be found across the leather multifunction steering wheel and velour front floor mats.
Standard equipment, which can be found in existing Style derivatives, includes keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, ambient lighting, a 12-inch digital driver’s cluster, a 12-inch infotainment screen with smartphone connectivity, high-beam assist, a multi-collision brake system, autonomous emergency braking, and lane assist.
