New Land Rover Discovery for South Africa – Pricing and features

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced the arrival of the all-new Land Rover Discovery Landmark as part of a refreshed line-up in South Africa.

The seven-seat luxury SUV joins the Tempest and S derivatives in a new three-strong model range with a newly introduced Tasman Blue finish and additional features and design details.

Head of Discovery, Product and Services, Joelle Taylor, explained that the models are designed for any occasion and any journey, whether that be a family road trip or the daily school run.

“Building on a rich Discovery heritage, the Landmark edition showcases the versatility that has long defined the nameplate,” she added.

“Positioned alongside the Tempest and Discovery S, the range offers a comprehensive line-up designed to meet the needs of every occasion.”

The Landmark demands that buyers part with R2,136,800, placing it in the middle of the new Land Rover Discovery trio.

Performance

In the local market, the entire Discovery, including the new Landmark, is fitted with a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder diesel motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

This configuration sends 257kW and 700Nm to all four driven wheels, enabling the three-tonne family car to sprint from 0-100km/h in only 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 209km/h.

As a result, the Discovery maintains an average fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km.

As a capable and versatile full-size SUV, the Discovery is fitted with All Terrain Progress Control, a cruise control system allowing drivers to set and maintain a steady speed in challenging off-road conditions.

The system works alongside Terrain Response 2 to offer driving modes that optimise a range of settings to suit various conditions, while the vehicle also boasts a maximum wading depth of 900mm.

The Discovery is rated for braked towing up to 3,500kg, with the Advanced Tow Assist programme taking the strain out of difficult reversing manoeuvres.

Features

The updated Discovery range features a unique exterior and new trim features, including the all-new Tasman Blue paint, which is reserved for the Landmark.

JLR notes that the new look draws inspiration from the original Clearwater Blue heritage paint dating back to Discovery’s inception in 1989.

The Landmark features a unique wordmark and mountain logo featured on the front tread plates, centre console, circular B-pillar insert and puddle lamp projectors, paying homage to previous Discovery models with the same detailing.

Its exterior trim is further enhanced by Graphite Atlas accents on the grille, side fender vents and badging on both the front and rear, while the front and rear skid plates are finished in Carpathian Grey.

Completing the exterior upgrades are 21-inch alloy wheels in an all-new Dark Agate Grey finish, adding to the existing line-up of nine wheel choices across the Discovery range.

Inside, it features dark grey brushed aluminium with Landmark branding, while the door casings and dashboard are finished in Tech Velour. It also features a sliding panoramic sunroof and a refrigerated centre console.

Beyond the standard features, the refreshed Discovery range can be fitted with any of five curated accessory packs, at an additional cost.

These include the For Dogs pack, Biking Adventures, Beach Days, the Road Trip pack, and the Snow Days pack, which are tailor-made for different buyer needs.

For the first time, JLR has fitted the Discovery with a new Driver Attention Monitor, which includes a driver-facing camera that monitors the driver’s gaze and provides audio-visual alerts to help ensure they are paying attention to the road ahead.
