New VW T-Roc launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

The new VW T-Roc has finally gone on sale in South Africa, ushering in the second generation of the brand’s premium compact SUV.

Volkswagen Group Africa confirmed that the new vehicle is now available for sale in three specifications, with prices starting at R599,900.

Positioned between the Taigo crossover and the Tiguan midsize SUV, the next-gen T-Roc is slightly larger than its predecessor and adds several new features and a fresh design.

Engine

All three versions of the crossover are equipped with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol (TSI) engine, which unfortunately means the range-topping 2.0-litre block has been dropped from the range.

The 1.4 TSI generates a total of 140kW and 250Nm and is paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, which connects to the front wheels.

Fuel consumption is pegged at 6.3l/100km, and the car can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.4 seconds. It also has a top speed of 205km/h.

Features

The T-Roc has been given a makeover with longer proportions, a wider stance, and a more prominent bumper and tailgate, which is intended to give it a greater road presence, according to the automaker.

It has a new lighting signature with LED headlamps, an illuminated VW logo, and a continuous light strip.

At the back, it has two-part combination LED taillights linked by another light strip and illuminated VW logo.

The compact SUV is available in three specifications: the Life, R-Line, and R-Line Black Style, each of which adds to the design.

The base Life starts things off with 16-inch Bilbao alloy wheels, black roof rails, Park Assist, a rearview camera, a 10.3-inch infotainment screen, a “Digital Cockpit” driver display, and 10-colour ambient lighting.

Moving up to the R-Line, you can expect IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights, 18-inch Coventry alloys, Sports seats, and a larger 12.9-inch screen.

At the top of the range is the R-Line Black Style, which, as its name suggests, adds black mirror caps, privacy glass, and 19-inch black York Aero rims.

The R-Line models have Varenna leather upholstery, and the seats are electronically adjustable with memory settings.

Optional extras include a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon stereo, a head-up display, and the IQ.Drive package, which adds assistance functions like adaptive cruise control, front assist with pedestrian monitoring, rear traffic alert, lane-keep assist, traffic jam assist, and an exit warning.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the new VW T-Roc is as follows:

• VW T-Roc 1.4 TSI R-Line Black Style – R709,900

This includes a 3-year/120,000km warranty and a 5-year/90,000km service plan.
