New Chinese 4×4 double-cab bakkie launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Chinese bakkie and SUV builder LDV unveiled the all-new T60 Max Plus at this year’s Festival of Motoring and has now introduced the bakkie to the South African market.

The double-cab arrives as part of the brand’s rapidly expanding local range, which includes single- and double-cab bakkies, the D90 Elite full-size SUV, and commercial vehicles, with a R699,000 starting price.

LDV South Africa CEO Gerhard Moolman said that although LDV has had a slow start since launching in 2024, the brand now has “a solid base in place to build a bright and long-term future in South Africa.”

He added that the brand’s already impressive and growing commercial fleet will become the backbone of South African businesses for years to come.

LDV is planning several new dealer openings by the end of 2026, and is targeting a network of more than 55 dealerships and service centres across South Africa.

Powertrain

The T60 Max Plus is powered by a 2.0-litre bi-turbo Euro V diesel engine, producing 160kW and 500Nm, making it one of the most powerful bakkies in its segment.

This block is then mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with a selectable four-wheel-drive system offering 2WD, 4WD High and 4WD Low modes.

As a result, LDV claims the bakkie maintains an average fuel consumption of 8.9l/100km, affording a range of more than 800km thanks to its 73-litre fuel tank.

The T60 Max Plus has two driving modes – Eco and Sport – and ventilated disc brakes at the front and rear, double-wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, and a rear on-demand differential lock.

Altogether, these allow for a maximum payload carrying capacity of 830kg and up to 3,000 kg braked towing capacity. 

Features

The all-wheel-drive double-cab rides on 18-inch black alloy wheels and features exterior design elements like a gloss-black front grille, black wheel arches and a black sports bar.

Inside, LDV has kitted the bakkie with a range of comfort and connectivity features, and placed a strong emphasis on driver and passenger comfort.

Key features in the cabin include dual 12.3-inch digital displays with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, leather-trimmed seats, six-way electrically adjustable and heated front seats, a heated multifunction steering wheel, climate control with rear air vents, and keyless entry with push-button start.

Alongside these features, the T60 Max Plus has been fitted with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance and safety features.

These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist, and multiple airbags.

These are joined by stability and traction control, Hill Descent Control and Hill-Start Assist, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree panoramic camera and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
