First-of-its-kind Range Rover Sport goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing

Jaguar Land Rover has officially opened the order books for the new Range Rover Sport Electric – the very first Sport model to use an all-electric powertrain.

The new SUV marks a pivotal moment in the brand’s 20-year history, undergoing extensive testing in environments around the world to ensure the electric model retains the Sport’s all-terrain identity.

The Range Rover Sport Electric is available to order in South Africa with prices starting at R3,291,100 for the AWD EV550 Dynamic SE.

It is also available in Dynamic HSE, Autobiography, and First Edition specifications, the latter of which is the flagship, and starts at R3,609,200.

Each purchase comes with an 8-year/160,000km warranty.

The first all-electric Range Rover Sport

Produced at Solihull in the United Kingdom, the new Sport boasts two 260kW electric motors, one over each axle.

These motors combine to generate a total output of 404kW and 850Nm, the highest torque of any Range Rover Sport.

This lets the luxury SUV accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds when using the Dynamic Launch mode.

Powering the e-motors is a 118.5kWh battery, which provides a range of 609km on the WLTP cycle on a single charge.

With a DC fast charger, it’s possible to add 220km of range within 10 minutes of inserting the plug.

It has a virtual all-wheel-drive system, dynamic air suspension, intelligent traction management, and electronic active roll control, which can apply up to 1,400Nm of force across each axle to maintain stability.

It also has all-wheel steering, which greatly reduces the turning circle, allowing the Range Rover to easily tackle hairpin bends or navigate tight parking spaces.

Internal testing included a stint between 914 metres of Carrara marble quarries in Italy, and a trip to the Magarigawa Club’s private track near Tokyo in Japan.
