New Haval H7 SUV launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

GWM has officially launched the all-new Haval H7 in South Africa, a rugged SUV with three powertrain options.

The Chinese carmaker said the new H7 is designed for drivers who value individuality and versatility, bringing together bold aesthetics, capable performance and robust protection to inspire confidence on every journey.

“From navigating the urban landscape to escaping into the great outdoors, it offers the freedom to explore beyond the everyday.”

“Whether embarking on a weekend camping trip, tackling off-road trails or discovering new destinations, the Haval H7 is built to accompany modern adventurers on every journey, wherever the road leads.”

The new SUV is available in six specifications, and prices start at R554,900.

Engines

The H7 range kicks off with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine linked to a nine-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).

It generates a total of 170kW and 380Nm and can be had with either a front-wheel or all-wheel-drive system

The 2WD variant can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 9 seconds, while the 4WD has a slightly faster time of 8.6 seconds.

Next up is the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a two-speed DCT.

This version produces 182kW and 540Nm and can reach 100km/h in 8.6 seconds while averaging 5.3l/100km.

Taking things one step further is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) which is available in 2WD and 4WD specifications and also uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol plant.

The 2WD units have a single e-motor, which helps to produce 240kW and 540Nm. It can reach 100km/h in 8.4 seconds and has an electric range of 130km on the NEDC cycle.

The flagship model, meanwhile, has a 4WD setup with two motors and puts out 280kW and 670Nm.

It has a slightly smaller electric range of 115km, but can rocket to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds. Both PHEV models support V2L charging.

The SUV has a 25-degree approach angle, 32-degree departure angle, 210mm of ground clearance, and a wading depth of 580mm.

It has 19-inch alloy wheels and comes with a full-size spare as standard.

The 2.0T 4WD units also have nine driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, Grass/Gravel, Rough Road and Auto.

Features

Equipment on the new Haval includes a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch head-up display that can project speed, navigation, and driver assistance information.

It has keyless entry, a multifunction steering wheel, voice commands, ambient lighting, a 50W wireless charger, a 10-speaker stereo, a panoramic sunroof, and electric front seats with heating and ventilation.

The boot offers 586 litres of storage, which can be expanded to 1,404 litres when the back seats are folded flat. A 220V outlet is included in the boot for appliances on camping trips.

Driving aids on the H7 range from adaptive cruise control to automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and a 540-degree camera with a transparent chassis view.
