New Isuzu D-Max X-Rider officially launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

The new Isuzu D-Max X-Rider has officially gone on sale in South Africa, adding three new entries to the bakkie’s catalogue.

First announced back in November 2023, the company has now announced that it is finally available to purchase from a starting price of R640,500.

Based on the mid-range LS units, the X-Rider nameplate adds several exclusive cosmetics and is only sold as a double cab.

Performance

The three X-Rider vehicles share the same 1.9-litre, turbocharged diesel engine which puts out a total of 110kW and 350Nm.

The base model uses a six-speed manual gearbox, while the other two have a six-speed automatic, and the top-end version is the only one to offer four-wheel drive while the others are pushed by their rear wheels.

Fuel consumption for the 4×2 models clocks in at an average of 7.4l/100km, while the 4×4 raises this slightly to 7.6l/100km.

The Isuzu has a ground clearance of 227mm, a water-wading depth of 800mm, and can tow a maximum of 2,100kg and carry 1,100kg in its load bed.

The bakkie’s approach angle comes in at 30.0 degrees, break-over angle at 22.5 degrees, and departure angle at 24.0 degrees.

Features

What sets the X-Rider apart from the standard D-Max is its styling elements, starting with a gloss black grille with a red Isuzu logo, model-specific badges on the doors and tailgate, dark grey roof rails, unique 18-inch alloy rims with red Isuzu lettering on the caps, and black accents on the door handles, side mirrors, tailgate handle, and sports bar.

It is also available in four exterior colours namely Islay Gray, Mercury Silver, Red Spinel, and Splash White.

The treatment extends to the interior, where you’ll find black leather upholstery with red contrast stitching, a red divider on the dashboard, special-edition floor mats, X decals on the seats, and coloured accents on the doors, gearstick, handbrake, and steering wheel.

This is on top of the equipment already included on the base models, such as automatic LED headlights, a multifunction leather steering wheel, six speakers, manual air conditioning, USB ports, 12V sockets, and a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Furthermore, the bakkie is fitted with safety and assistance items comprising hill-start assist, hill-descent control, stability control, traction control, cruise control, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and seven airbags.
