The new Mazda CX-60 Takumi has officially gone on sale in the domestic market, slotting in at the top of the automaker’s South African portfolio at a price of just over R1 million.
The Takumi is the country’s first diesel-hybrid vehicle as well as the only diesel CX-60 in the now three-strong range.
Takumi specifications
The electrified Takumi sports a turbocharged 3.3-litre diesel mill under the hood paired with a small electric motor that throws an extra 12.4kW and 153Nm into the mix.
Altogether, the power units produce 187kW and 550Nm which is channeled to all four corners through an eight-speed automatic gearshift.
The hybrid setup assures a low average fuel usage of 4.9l/100km alongside a relatively brisk 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 219km/h.
As a result, the Takumi is both quicker and more efficient than the petrol-powered CX-60s which return a consumption of 7.3-7.7l/100km and reach triple digits in 9.6-9.9 seconds, depending on the model.
Off-Road, Sport, and Towing drive modes are also included in the new flagship thanks to the fitment of the Mi-Drive system.
Visually, the CX-60 Takumi is set apart from its namesakes through an exclusive front bumper design; a bar-type piano black grille; a bright metal finish to the front signature wings, side signatures, and glazing surrounds; body-coloured wheel arch mouldings; and unique 20-inch alloy wheels.
It’s also sold in a new Rhodium White Premium Metallic exterior colour that joins the existing palette of eight paints.
Buyers of the new Mazda can further expect a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a windshield heads-up display (HUD), a 12-speaker Bose stereo, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger, leather upholstery, electric front seats with ventilation, reclining rear seats, an electrically-adjustable steering column, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, and keyless entry and start.
Assistance and safety features further encompass hill-hold assist and descent control, adaptive LED headlights, driver attention alert, radar cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warnings, advanced smart city braking assist, distance and speed alert, front and rear cross-traffic alert, 360-degree cameras, and front, side, and rear radar.
The automaker additionally equipped its pinnacle vehicle with the all-new Mazda Personalisation System that, after the driver enters their height into the central display, uses in-car cameras to detect their eye placement and automatically adjust the seat, steering wheel, HUD, and wing mirrors to the ideal positioning.
In the back, the Takumi’s boot provides 570 litres of loading capacity that increases to 1,148 litres with the rear seats folded flat, and 1,726 litres when loaded to the ceiling.
