Mercedes-Benz has finally added the next-gen E-Class to its local configurator, showing that the sedan will soon be available from a starting price of R1,344,750.
At launch, two engines will be on offer to domestic clients including one petrol and one diesel, both of which can be purchased in Avantgarde and AMG Line trim levels – the latter of which is R105,000 extra.
Later this year, it’s expected that Mercedes will also introduce four-wheel drive and high-performance AMG variants of the E-Class to the local market.
E-Class specifications
Standard equipment in Mercedes’ new executive four-door comprises 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lights with adaptive high-beam assist, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, Artico man-made leather upholstery, heated front seats with lumbar support, a Nappa leather steering wheel, open-pore wood panel finishes, climate control, a wireless smartphone charger, a reverse camera, park assist, adaptive cruise control, and a driver monitoring camera.
Two displays then adorn the dashboard including a 12.3-inch instrument cluster alongside a 14.4-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and brings three years of free navigation updates for map data.
Upgrading to the AMG Line sees sportier exterior styling, 19-inch AMG wheels in tantalum grey, larger brakes on the front axle, front Sports seats wrapped in Artico leather/Microcut microfibre, a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, AMG floor mats, and AMG sports pedals.
The sedan measures 4,949mm long, 2,065mm wide, and 1,468mm tall and provides a sizeable 540-litre boot capacity.
Buyers of the incoming E-Class will have one of two powertrains to choose from comprising a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol (E200) or diesel (E220d) supported by a 48V mild-hybrid system.
