LDV announces new Adventure SUV and Luxury MPV for South Africa
In March, LDV made headlines when it revealed that it is entering South Africa with the T60 bakkie this coming May.
Now, the automaker has announced that its “full range of passenger and commercial vehicles have received the green light for local introduction” – meaning local customers will soon also be able to purchase LDV’s D90 SUV, G90 MPV, and G10+ commercial van.
These vehicles have proven highly successful in countries such as Australia which have a very similar market profile to South Africa, said the brand.
LDV is one of South Africa’s newest automakers, being part of the Chinese state-owned Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) group which also counts nameplates such as Maxus and MG as its subsidiaries.
D90
The D90 is a seven-seater adventure SUV that will no doubt have industry heavyweights such as the Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner right in its crosshairs.
For South Africa, the company confirmed that the D90 will feature a 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel engine generating 160kW, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and intelligent all-terrain response system.
Both 4×2 and 4×4 models will be available, with as many as three differential locks included on select variants. Ground clearance comes in at 220mm, and the seven-seater stands 5,046mm long, 2,016mm wide, and 1,870mm tall.
The new D90 will also get LDV’s most advanced infotainment system to date, JBL-tuned surround sound, and multi-zone climate control, said the automaker.
G90
Alongside its bundu-bashing bakkie and SUV, LDV will launch the G90 in South Africa which is set to compete in the luxury MPV segment.
Depending on selected trim, the G90 boasts quilted leather upholstery, an oversized panoramic sunroof, a multi-screen infotainment system stretching across the breadth of the front dashboard, and next-generation assisted driving technology.
Buyers will further be able to choose between seven and eight-seater layouts, with the former seeing a highly-adjustable captain seat configuration for the second row.
The MPV is motivated by the same drivetrain as the D90 and it provides Normal, Eco, and Power drive modes.
G10+
In the commercial category, LDV plans to debut the G10+ Delivery Van.
The van boasts 5.2m³ of securable cargo space, a one-tonne payload capacity, and dual sliding doors for easy access to the cargo hold.
For the operators, quality-of-life features include smartphone connectivity and a reverse camera.
Driving the G10+ is a 2.0-litre diesel engine pushing out 118kW, meshing with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
