New Porsche Cayenne GTS unveiled – South African pricing

Porsche has taken the wraps off the GTS variants of the new Cayenne, which slots in between the Cayenne S and flagship Cayenne Turbo specifications.

Available in both standard and coupe body styles, the new GTS models retail from R2,475,000 and R2,547,000, respectively, which are inclusive of a five-year Driveplan, Porsche South Africa confirmed to TopAuto.

The mid-rangers boast a specific setup providing sharper on-road performance than the standard Cayenne and Cayenne S, combined with exclusive design elements that denote their more dynamic persona.

Everything new

The new Cayenne GTS benefits from a significantly updated 4.0-litre, twin-turbo, V8 engine boasting a power output of 363kW and 660Nm, reflecting an improvement of 29kW and 41Nm over the pre-facelift models.

The increased grunt has slashed the 0-97km/h (60mph) time to just 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 275km/h on the cards.

The more capable power unit is not all there is to it, though.

The GTS derivatives get two-chamber air suspension with adaptive damping and torque vectoring as standard, which is derived from the suspension system of the pinnacle Cayenne Turbo GT.

The system incorporates two-valve damper technology making it highly responsive to changing road conditions, as well as pivot bearings taken from the Turbo GT, the result being “a notably direct and precise steering and turn-in response as well as a heightened level of cornering performance,” said Porsche.

Additionally, the newcomers feature a separate water cooling circuit for the Porsche Traction Management all-wheel-drive system which aims to improve the endurance of the SUV during spirited driving.

Cosmetic enhancements on the Cayenne GTS take the form of larger front air intakes, tinted head- and taillights, an adaptive rear spoiler, 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in anthracite grey, red brake calipers, dark bronze exhaust tips, and black exterior badging.

The Sport Design Package is also included, bringing high-gloss black rocker panels, window surrounds, wheel-arch extensions, and inlays in the front fascia.

Inside the cabin, Porsche has wrapped the roof lining, armrests, door panels, steering wheel, and seat centers in the sporty-looking Race Tex material.

Standard equipment on the Cayenne GTS includes a heated GT Sport steering wheel, eight-way Sports seats, Bose surround sound, ambient lighting, a curved digital driver’s display, and HD Matrix LED headlights.
