The City of Cape Town plans to convert 13 roads within Subcouncils 6, 11, 14, 18, and 20 into one-ways in an effort to ease traffic congestion and enhance safety on the targeted streets.
Residents of the affected areas are invited to submit their comments on the proposed one-way conversions before 7 June 2024.
This can be done via email at [email protected], online at www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay, or by written submission to Public Participation Unit, 3rd floor, Podium Block, Civic Centre, 12 Hertzog Boulevard, Cape Town 8001.
Citizens are required to use the planned conversion’s reference number when submitting their comments.
The City is also hosting several information days regarding the road transformations, the dates and locations of these being:
- 8 May 2024 from 15h00 to 18h00 – Rondebosch East Primary School, 4th Avenue, Rondebosch East
- 14 May 2024 from 15h00 to 18h00 – St James Church Kenilworth, 3rd Ave, Kenilworth
- 16 May 2024 from 16h00 to 19h00 – Labiance Primary School, 37 Alliance St, Labiance
- 21 May 2024 from 15h00 to 18h00 – Rosebank Junior School, Moolenberg Road, Rondebosch
- 4 June 2024 from 16h00 to 19h00 – Retreat Civic Centre, 19 Toring Weg, Retreat
- 5 June 2024 from 15h00 to 18h00 – Kirstenhof Primary School, 18 Lente Street, Kirstenhof
“‘One-way road conversions are a great tool in safeguarding road users in our communities. These measures enhance pedestrian safety, alleviate congestion during peak periods, and increase parking availability,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
“These conversions will also benefit schools that have a higher number of vulnerable road users during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. The statutory public comment process is an important aspect of this undertaking. I encourage you to view the maps and submit any comment or input you may have.”
