More affordable Omoda C5 launched in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Omoda has significantly lowered the barrier to entry for its C5 crossover in South Africa with the introduction of the new entry-level Style trim.

The C5 Style is priced at R359,900, a welcome R88,000 lower than the previous starter model, the C5 Tech.

What you get

Omoda has achieved the substantial price cut through trimming down the C5’s list of standard features.

Versus the Tech, the Style forgoes luxuries like folding electric mirrors, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, and front parking sensors in pursuit of cost savings.

However, the newcomer is anything but sparsely equipped, as it still offers a leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel, front Sports seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, automatic airconditioning, cruise control, and automatic LED headlights.

Furthermore, it gets a suite of safety and assistance items such as a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front seatbelt reminders, tyre-pressure monitoring, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, and four airbags.

The Style also looks identical to the pricier Tech from the outside with its 17-inch alloy wheels, and it welcomes the addition of the new Bloodstone Red hue to the paint palette.

Driving the new Omoda is the same 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol powerplant found in its siblings.

The unit generates 115kW and 230Nm which is directed to the front axle via a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the result being a combined fuel consumption of 6.9l/100km.

Price

The South African pricing and expanded model line-up for the Omoda C5 are as follows:

Each purchase carries a 5-year/150,000km factory warranty, a 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty, a 2-year/30,000km service plan, and 5-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.
