New Toyota Starlet Cross for South Africa – Official pricing and specifications

The Toyota Starlet Cross has gone on sale in South Africa with four variants on offer spanning Xs and XR trim levels, as well as manual and automatic powertrains.

A rebadged version of the popular Suzuki Fronx, the new Starlet Cross is positioned as Toyota’s entry-level SUV in the country with a starting price of R299,900.

Features

The new Starlet Cross Xs is delivered as standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with daytime running lights, a multifunction leather steering wheel, a 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, hill-assist control, ABS, and two front airbags.

The crossover supports Toyota Connect, too, which brings functions such as in-car WiFi, a GPS vehicle locator, a digital logbook, a battery health checker, a service booking function, roadside assistance, and licence renewal directly from the My Toyota app.

Upgrading to the pricier XR specification throws in a number of nice-to-haves, such as keyless entry and push-button start, auto-retractable door mirrors, an electrochromatic rear-view mirror, a heads-up display, a larger 9-inch central touchscreen, two extra speakers, a wireless smartphone charger, a panoramic camera system, and side and curtain airbags.

The XR models can also be specified in three bi-tone exterior paint schemes in addition to the six monotone hues available on the Xs.

The Toyota crossover measures 3,995mm long, 1,765mm wide, and 1,550mm tall with ground clearance pegged at 170mm.

Boot capacity then comes in at 304 litres.

Engine

The entire Starlet Cross range is driven by a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine generating a maximum of 77kW and 138Nm.

Both the Xs and XR can be purchased with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox, with average fuel consumption for the former coming in at 5.6l/100km and for the latter at 5.8l/100km.
