JAC launches new six-seater double cab in South Africa for R360,000

JAC has launched two new derivatives for the X200 forward-cab series in South Africa.

In response to customer research, the workhorse is now available with a new 2.8-litre, turbo-diesel engine intended to give prospective buyers an affordable model with low running costs.

The range now consists of four units, and prices start at R295,566, excluding VAT.

Specifications

The two newcomers feature a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel powerplant mounted under the front seats, which produces a total of 68kW and 210Nm.

Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox transmitting power to the rear wheels, the JAC can achieve an average fuel consumption of 8.0l/100km.

This drivetrain serves as a cheaper alternative to the existing units, which run on an uprated version of the same engine that puts out 80kW and 240Nm.

The X200 is built on a heavy-duty ladder-frame chassis with optimized weight distribution over each axle, giving it a stable platform for various commercial applications.

It features large disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the back, as well as ABS and a load-sensing proportioning valve (LSPV) to ensure a safe stopping experience.

On the single-cab models, the load bed measures 2,785mm in length, 1,650mm in width, and 355mm in height, giving it a cargo area of 4,595mm² – enough for a payload of 1.5 tonnes.

Naturally, the double cab compromises the loading space slightly, as the bin is shortened to a length of 2,215mm.

Despite this, the larger cabin models can still haul up to 1.3 tonnes in the back.

The JAC’s forward-cabin design also means that the four-door units have space for up to six individuals – a unique trait not found in any of its competitors.

The cabin’s elevated position means the driver has a better view of the road, and the vehicle’s hydraulic steering and minimal turning radius of 5.4 metres means it is easy to maneuver in areas where larger trucks would struggle.

Operators are treated to synthetic leather seats, manual air conditioning, a height-adjustable steering wheel, a radio with Bluetooth, and electric windows.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the new JAC X200 forward cab range (including VAT) is as follows:

  • JAC X200 2.8L TDI 68kW 1.5-tonne Single-cab – R339,900 (New)
  • JAC X200 2.8L TDI 68kW 1.3-tonne Double-cab – R359,900 (New)
  • JAC X200 2.8L TDI 80kW 1.5-tonne Single-cab – R389,900
  • JAC X200 2.8L TDI 80kW 1.3-tonne Double-cab – R409,900

This includes a 7-year/200,000km warranty, comprising a 5-year/100,000km warranty for essential mechanical components with an additional 2-year/100,000 warranty for the drivetrain components.

The 80kW variants also come with a 5-year/100,000km service plan.
