Isuzu is only offering a limited selection of mu-X SUVs in South Africa at the moment as it rolls out the updated models for the 2024 cycle.
As a result, the LS 4×4 and the Onyx variants of the seven-seater are presently unavailable in the country.
“For the incoming model year line-up, we are doing a staggered approach based on imports and our orders,” Isuzu South Africa confirmed to TopAuto.
Hence, these models will arrive in showrooms once again at a later date, though the automaker didn’t confirm when.
The LS 4×4 serves as the most affordable mu-X with four-wheel drive, whereas the Onyx is positioned as the pinnacle of the range with all the bells and whistles one could want.
As a result, the line-up is limited to four models for the immediate future, split between two variations of the LS and LSE trim levels.
Specifications
Standard kit in the mu-X LS derivatives comprises automatic bi-LED headlights with daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, a leather multifunction steering wheel, manual airconditioning with rear vents, partial leather upholstery, electric front seats, a multi-info driver’s display, a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and six speakers.
The SUVs also offer assistance and safety systems such as cruise control, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with brake assist, seven airbags, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, and trailer sway control.
Upgrading to the LSE further brings an electric tailgate, shifter paddles, automatic climate control, a leather gear shifter, reclining front seats, a 9-inch infotainment display, eight speakers, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear collision detection.
The LS variants can be purchased with two different turbo-diesel engines – either a 1.9-litre or a 3.0-litre – both paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox channeling power to the rear wheels.
The smaller unit generates 110kW and 350Nm and returns an average fuel consumption of 7.0l/100km. Maximum towing capacity for this setup is pegged at 2,100kg.
Alternatively, the larger motor produces 140kW and 450Nm which elevates fuel usage to 7.6l/100km and towing potential to 3,500kg.
The LSE is exclusively sold with the 3.0-litre mill and is now the only model that is also available in 4×4 guise with low range.
A rear diff lock is standard across the line-up, regardless of whether the chosen mu-X is 4×2 or 4×4.
