VW has officially opened sales of the new Touareg in South Africa.
The automaker previously confirmed that its updated flagship would go on sale from 1 August 2024, and it is now finally listed on the VWSA website.
The Touareg is available in two specifications with prices starting at R1,457,900, and deliveries will commence immediately.
Features
The alterations to the Volkswagen start with its visuals, as it features a new grille and front apron intended to emphasise its width.
A major addition is a pair of new IQ.Light HD Matrix LED headlights comprised of three LED modules accentuated by L-shaped daytime running lights.
A similar lighting overhaul is applied to the back, where there is a new continuous horizontal LED strip for the taillight clusters and a VW badge illuminated in red.
Depending on the model, the Touareg is perched atop either 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels with unique designs.
The top-end units also feature bespoke visuals inspired by the brand’s R performance division, including unique bumpers, illuminated scuff plates, and R badges.
Regarding the equipment levels, South Africa has access to the Elegance and R-Line trims, both generously equipped.
New equipment afforded to both derivatives includes upgraded USB-C ports with a charging capacity of 45W (compared to 15W in the old models), electronically-adjustable front seats with memory settings, voice recognition, and three-zone ambient lighting with 30 colour selections.
The dashboard comprises an updated 12-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 15-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside the Discover Pro Max navigation system.
Other standard fittings include a wireless charging pad, Vienna leather upholstery, heated front seats, four-zone climate control, a leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, keyless entry and start, and a panoramic sunroof.
This is in addition to a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, driver attention monitoring, tyre-pressure monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, a speed limiter, and adaptive cruise control.
The top-spec R-Line additionally benefits from Varenna leather upholstery, massage capabilities for the front chairs, a heated Sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, darkened aluminium inserts around the cabin, and R-Line branding for the seats and steering wheel.
Furthermore, the list of optional extras includes a 12-speaker stereo, a heads-up display, and the Travel Assist package with lane-keep assist and front cross-traffic monitoring.
The flagship SUV is hanging onto its 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which pumps out a hefty 190kW and 600Nm.
This is transmitted to all four wheels thanks to the 4Motion permanent all-wheel-drive system, while gear changes are handled by an eight-speed automatic transmission.
As a result, the Touareg achieves an average fuel consumption of 7.8l/100km.
The sizeable output also means the VW can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 206km/h.
Also worth highlighting is the Touareg’s towing capacity of 3,500kg, which owners can make use of with a foldable towbar and Trailer Assist function.
Two features exclusive to the R-Line are all-wheel steering, which improves maneuverability, and air suspension with automatic self levelling for improved comfort.
