The best-selling car in South Africa this past July was none other than the Toyota Hilux, which took home the trophy after securing a grand total of 3,021 purchases.
VW’s evergreen Polo Vivo hatch earned seconds with 2,591 sales during the month, with Ford’s Ranger coming home in third with 2,258 sales.
Fourth was reliably retained by the Isuzu D-Max with 1,641 units moved, followed by the Toyota Corolla Cross in fifth with a score of 1,547 sales.
The compact Hyundai Grand i10 remained a popular choice for local motorists, grabbing the sixth position with a respectable 1,383 registrations, ahead of the Toyota Starlet in seventh with 1,222.
Eighth was again awarded to VW, this time the bigger Polo which saw 1,211 examples fly off the proverbial shelves, and ninth went to the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro for its 1,153 transactions.
Closing out the top 10 was the Nissan Magnite with 1,052 units sold, barely scraping past the Suzuki Swift which fell to 11th with its 1,045 sales.
Dipping below 1,000 units for the first time, the Haval Jolion pulled in 868 buyers in July earning it the 12th spot, with the Toyota Vitz sitting in 13th by virtue of its 864 sales.
The Mahindra Pik Up, Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Fortuner, and Suzuki Ertiga accounted for positions 14 to 17, with these models reporting 790, 772, 727, and 704 purchases, respectively.
The 18th spot was swooped up by the Toyota Urban Cruiser with 635 units rolling off showroom floors, trailed by the Suzuki Fronx in 19th with a slightly lower 620 units finding new owners.
Only just edging into the top-sellers ranks, the new Toyota Starlet Cross secured the 20th position despite its very short time on the market with a tally of 590 sales.
In total, the top 20 performers accrued 24,694 purchases in July, accounting for approximately 56% of the 44,229 new cars sold in the country.
