The Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years has broken cover in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the esteemed 911 Turbo model, boasting exclusive design hallmarks together with the finest materials at the German marque’s disposal.
Porsche South Africa confirmed that the special-edition 911 retails from R5,903,000 which includes a 5-year/100,000km Driveplan.
Porsche has limited the production run of the 911 Turbo 50 Years to just 1,974 units in honour of the year in which the first generation of the nameplate made its debut.
Local deliveries of the anniversary 911 will commence in early 2025, said the automaker.
Something borrowed, something new
The 911 Turbo 50 Years anniversary model, based on the 911 Turbo S launched in 2019, both pays tribute to the paradigm-shifting 1974 911 Turbo as well as reinterprets this heritage.
The flanks of the svelte coupe are decorated with distinctive vinyl graphics as a nod to the historic livery of the 911 RSR Turbo presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1973, itself a forerunner of the 911 Turbo.
It further features the current Turbo-exclusive exterior colour Turbonite, which is a first for a 911, and this same hue is used on inlays in the rear engine cover, the fuel tank cap, the Porsche crest, and as a contrasting colour in the Turbo 50 model logo.
The 50 Years also comes with the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels in Turbonite as standard.
Another historical reference is the use of Anthracite Grey on the rear wing blade, rear apron, mirror base, and air intake trims.
Finally, a badge on the rear engine cover grille displays a turbocharger icon and the years 1974–2024, and when the doors are open, LED door projectors shine the image of a turbocharger onto the ground next to the car.
The interior of the 911 Turbo 50 Years does equally as much to remember its history.
As an exclusive tribute to the early Turbo models, the iconic McKenzie tartan adorns the centre panels of the seat covers and the interior door panels.
Additional contrasts in Turbonite differentiate the special edition from the regular production model, including accents on the seatbelts and controls, decorative stitching, trim strips, and the Porsche crest on the GT sports steering wheel.
Above the glove compartment sits an anniversary plaque in aluminium, which bears both the Turbo 50 logo and the individual limited-edition number of the particular unit.
Meanwhile, an illuminated Turbo 50 logo finished in black brushed aluminium features on the door kick plates, and the same logo is embroidered into the headrests of the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus and etched into the back of the left rear seat.
Completing the cosmetic upgrades, the A-pillar, sun visors, and roof lining are upholstered in perforated Race-Tex, and an analogue Porsche Design Subsecond clock with a special Turbo 50 design is integrated into the dashboard.
As an option, customers can spruce up their 911 Turbo 50 Years a bit further with the Heritage Design Package.
The historically inspired collection brings numerous additional design and equipment highlights that hark back to the 911 Turbo models of the ’70s.
The base colour is Aventurine Green Metallic, alternatively, both the standard 911 colours and Paint to Sample programme colours are available.
Another standout component of the Heritage Design Package is a high-quality decorative graphic in satin-finish White consisting of three elements: the lollipop with individually selectable car numbers between 0 and 99, the 50 years of Turbo logo, and a Porsche logo.
Moreover, the Heritage Design Package employs the historic Porsche crest from 1964 on the front bonnet as well as on the centre caps of the Sport Classic wheels, the latter of which are painted in Brilliant Silver and White, and gold Porsche logos on the rear.
In the cabin, the dashboard trim, glove box, and seat backrest inlays are covered with the classic pattern; and the historic Porsche crest is mounted on the steering wheel.
The dials in the instrument cluster and the Sport Chrono clock in the Heritage Design Package are then finished in green, and the centre console storage compartment bears the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur logo embossed in the leather.
Propelling the 911 Turbo 50 Years is Porsche’s dependable twin-turbocharged, 3.7-litre boxer engine spitting out 478kW and 800Nm.
Power is transmitted to the wheels by an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission and an active all-wheel-drive system with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, which includes an electronically controlled rear differential lock with fully variable torque distribution.
As a result, the two-door makes light work of the 0-100km/h sprint, smashing it in just 2.7 seconds, while 200km/h is eclipsed in 8.9 seconds.
A sports exhaust system with black tailpipes comes as standard, as do black brake callipers and the Porsche Active Suspension Management sports suspension that sees a 10mm reduction in ride height.
Rounding off the spect sheet is a front-axle lift system and LED Matrix headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus.
Exclusively for owners of the 911 Turbo 50 Years, Porsche Design Timepieces is releasing a special wristwatch as an homage to the anniversary model.
The 911 Turbo 50 Years chronograph sports the COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.200 movement with flyback function, and like the vehicle, it will be limited to 1,974 units and combines classic design with modern technology.
The black dial wears elements in Turbonite in likeness of the timepiece on the car’s dashboard, and the strap consists of black vehicle leather with decorative stitching in Turbonite.
The transparent caseback provides a view of the winding rotor in the same style as the wheels of the 911 Turbo 50, and Porsche engraved the limited-edition number on the titanium housing, corresponding to the limited-edition number of the vehicle.
The chronograph is also available in a special version in conjunction with the Heritage Design Package.
