Hyundai has launched the Exter in South Africa, which is positioned as its new entry-level crossover below the Venue.
The crossover is now available in five specifications across three trim levels namely Premium, Executive, and Elite, with its starting price pegged at R269,900.

The entry-level Exter Premium is delivered with automatic halogen headlights, LED daytime running lights, 15-inch steel wheels with styled plastic covers, a polyurethane multifunction steering wheel, manual airconditioning, a 4.2-inch multi-info driver’s display, an 8.0-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, and a front USB port.
Safety systems comprise tyre-pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors, ABS, six airbags, and Isofix child-seat anchors.
The automatic Premium model is also fitted with electric wing mirrors with integrated indicators, hill-start assist, and electronic stability control.
The mid-sped Exter Executive is further treated with 15-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, artificial leather wrapping on the steering wheel, cruise control, and a reverse camera.
Step into the flagship Elite specification, and you’ll be greeted with more luxuries such as climate control, cloth/artificial leather upholstery, and a sunroof.
The compact Exter family measures 3,815mm in length, 1,710mm in width, and 1,631mm in height with a ground clearance of 185mm.
Boot space is measured at 290 litres with the rear bench up, growing to a generous 1,275 litres with the rear backrest collapsed.
The Exter family is powered by a single 1.2-litre petrol engine generating 61kW and 114Nm, paired with either a five-speed manual or automated manual transmission (AMT).
The manual variants return a fuel usage of 5.7l/100km whereas the AMT reports a slightly higher reading of 5.9l/100km.
Despite the different cog swappers, all variants of the crossover accelerate from 0-100km/h in 12.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 165km/h.
