New BMW X3 in South Africa – Pricing revealed

The South African pricing for the next-gen BMW X3 has been uncovered ahead of its launch in the final quarter of 2024.

According to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the new SUV will start at R1,136,417a jump of R161,417 over the outgoing models.

Engines

The new X3 will have five derivatives at launch featuring one of three different powerplants.

Kicking things off is the 20d – a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel block good for 145kW and 400Nm, letting it sprint to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds before capping out at 215km/h.

It also benefits from 48V mild hybrid technology, giving it an average fuel consumption of 6.2l/100km.

Next is the 30e, which is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrain combining a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for a total of 220kW and 450Nm.

This gives the PHEV a 0-100km/h time of 6.2 seconds and the same top speed of 215km.

Since it is a plug-in, the 30e also features a 17.9kWh battery with 90km of electric driving on tap, though the car’s speed is limited to 140km/h in this mode.

When using just the combustion engine, the hybrid has a consumption of 7.9l/100km, but the manufacturer claims this can go as low as 1.1l/100km with smart use of the electrical systems.

Finally, there’s the flagship M50, which lives up to its M credentials with a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol mill pumping out a substantial 280kW and 540Nm.

Consequently, the hot SUV can rocket to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds and climb to a higher top speed of 250km/h.

It also benefits from 48V tech, but its potent engine means it still has the biggest thirst at 8.2l/100km.

Every model in the new X3 range is paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Features

The next-gen BMW is sporting a fresh design with its iconic kidney grille flanked by new adaptive LED headlights and L-shaped daytime running lights.

It also has new flared wheel arches, a long roof spoiler, side skirts, taillights, and a revised tailgate.

Alloy wheels start at 19 inches in size, but are bumped up to 20-inch rims on the M50.

Inside, the dashboard is punctuated by a new dual curved display for the driver and infotainment systems, as well as an Interaction Bar that replaces the old climate buttons.

The X3 also comes with a flat-bottom multifunction leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, and Sports seats wrapped in Econeer fabric, though buyers have the option of artificial or genuine leather.

Other equipment includes three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, cloud-based navigation, and keyless entry and start with Digital Key Plus, which lets owners link their smartphone or smartwatch as a virtual key.

This is in addition to the driver assistance functions such as cruise control, front-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-change warning, speed limit info, speed limit assist, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera.

Customers can also install extras like heated and ventilated seats, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, a parking assistant, and a panoramic sunroof.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the new BMW X3 is as follows:

This includes a 2-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan, with an additional 8-year/100,000km battery warranty for the hybrid units.
