New Mahindra XUV700 flagship launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mahindra has launched the new XUV700 Black Edition in South Africa.

As its name implies, the Black Edition adds a number of dark-themed cosmetics that lend the family SUV an elite look in the XUV700 line-up.

The new model is positioned as the flagship of the series with a starting price of R627,900R27,901 more than the previous range-topper.

Features

The Black Edition is based on the AX7L, meaning it comes with seven seats instead of the base model’s five.

The SUV’s aesthetics start with an exclusive Napoli Black paint scheme, in contrast to the Midnight Black option available to the other units.

This colour choice is extended to the 18-inch alloy wheels and the front grille, which now has a black finish instead of chrome.

In a similar vein, the interior’s usual white upholstery has been swapped out for black leatherette covers.

Other than that, the flagship is the same as the AX7L, which grants access to a generous spec sheet.

This includes automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, a six-way electronic driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charging pad, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker Sony stereo, and a dual display consisting of two 10.25-inch screens for the driver and infotainment systems.

Driver assistance and safety inclusions comprise a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver alert detection, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, tyre-pressure monitoring, and six airbags.

Engine

Like the rest of the XUV700 range, the newcomer is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces a respectable 149kW and 380Nm.

Drive is directed down to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox, allowing the SUV to achieve an average fuel consumption of 6.6l/100km.

It also supports a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,500kg.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the updated Mahindra XUV700 series is as follows:

  • Mahindra XUV700 2.0T AX5 – R495,199
  • Mahindra XUV700 2.0T AX7 – R551,399
