New Omoda C9 launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Omoda has officially launched the new C9 SUV in South Africa.

The C9 is positioned as the flagship of the automaker’s local catalogue with prices starting at R785,000.

However, the brand is running a promotional campaign until the end of October, which will cut the price by R25,000.

Engine

The new Omoda is available in two specifications – Inspire and Explore – both of which use a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

This produces a total of 197kW and 400Nm, which is sent down to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The key difference between the two derivatives is that the Inspire is front-wheel drive and has three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.

The Explore, on the other hand, is all-wheel drive and brings additional settings for Snow, Mud, Sand, and Offroad.

It also features underbody protection and a more refined suspension system with continuous damping control for improved comfort.

Features

As the flagship of the Omoda brand in South Africa, the C9 naturally comes with an extensive spec sheet.

The SUV sits atop 20-inch alloy wheels with red brake calipers, and the borderless diamond front grille is flanked by X-shaped LED headlights and daytime running lights.

There are four different colours to choose from, namely Cosmic Black, Meteorite Grey, Moonlight White, and Quantum Grey.

Moving inside, the Inspire is kitted out with keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, electric front seats, leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, an eight-speaker Sony stereo, a wireless charger, dual-zone climate control with rear vents and a fragrance system, ventilated front seats, heated seats for both the front and back row, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, two 12.3-inch screens for the driver and infotainment functions, and a heads-up display.

It also comes with advanced driver assistance systems comprising adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, autonomous emergency braking, forward and rear-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot detection, door-opening warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive headlights, parking sensors, and a 540-degree camera.

The Explore then adds Nappa leather upholstery and a 12-speaker sound system with integrated headrest speakers.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the new Omoda C9 is as follows, including the promotional rate for October:

• Omoda C9 2.0T 400T Explore AWD – R885,000 (R860,000)

Each purchase comes with a 7-year/200,000km warranty, a 7-year/100,000km service plan, and an additional 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty.
