More affordable Nissan Navara Double Cab for South Africa – Pricing revealed

The South African launch of the new Nissan Navara Double Cab (DC) XE is right around the corner and we’ve managed to uncover pricing before it officially hits showrooms.

The XE assumes the role of the new entry-level model in the Navara DC family. Up to now, only the single cab was available in the spartan XE trim whereas the DC was sold in the more luxurious SE grade or higher.

Our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists confirmed that the Navara DC XE will be available in two flavours, priced at R493,600 for the 4×2 and R567,000 for the 4×4.

These prices include a 6-year/150,000km warranty and a 6-year/90,000km service plan.

The introduction of the more affordable Navara DC follows the discontinuation of the darling NP200 and the addition of new export markets to Nissan South Africa’s portfolio, with the automaker hoping to retain its market share and, perhaps more importantly, jobs at its Gauteng factory, by expanding its existing offerings.

XE specs

The Navara DC XE comes with Nissan’s dependable turbocharged 2.5-litre diesel engine churning out 120kW and 403Nm – a slight decrease from the 140kW and 450Nm it generates in the pricier trims.

The motor is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with the setup returning a combined fuel usage of 7.2l/100km on the 4×2 and 7.6l/100km on the 4×4. The all-paw version also offers 2H, 4H, and 4L settings.

Owing to its utilitarian roots, the XE features leaf-spring suspension as opposed to the coil springs in the more luxurious Navara double cabs.

This allows it to support a maximum load capacity of 1,148 kg on the 4×2 model – the highest in the DC range – and 1,067 kg on the 4×4.

Nissan further promised that the more traditional leaf springs have been tuned to deliver road-holding abilities and comfort levels akin to coils.

Buyers looking at the Navara DC XE as a potential base for an Overlanding or off-roading build will also be glad to know they boast the same ground clearance as well as approach, departure, and breakover angles as the existing models.

In the 4×2, these figures are measured as 213 mm, 31.7 degrees, 28.4 degrees, and 22.2 degrees, respectively.

In the 4×4 ground clearance remains unchanged, but the approach angle grows to 32.5 degrees, the departure angle to 29.1 degrees, and the breakover angle to 23.2 degrees.

The XE double cabs are further equipped with 16-inch steel wheels, central locking with speed-sensing auto-locking, a multifunction steering wheel, a radio with Bluetooth, manual airconditioning, electric windows and side mirrors, and a sliding rear window for access to the load bin.

Safety features encompass two airbags, Isofix child-seat restraints in the rear, an advanced vehicle dynamic control system, electronic brakeforce distribution, and trailer sway control.
