New Ford Mustang Dark Horse in South Africa – Pricing revealed

Ford has revealed the pricing for the new Mustang Dark Horse ahead of its imminent launch in South Africa.

The Dark Horse is the flagship model in the iconic muscle car series, boasting a higher power ceiling than its sibling – the GT.

Prices for the top-end Mustang start at R1,500,000, making it R200,000 more expensive than the GT.

The listed price includes a 4-year/120,000km warranty as well as an optional 6-year/90,000km service plan.

V8 Power

Under the hood of the Dark Horse is a specially modified 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine, which can unleash an impressive 334kW and 540Nm.

This is 6kW more than the GT, making the Dark Horse the most powerful naturally aspirated Mustang to date, said the manufacturer.

To achieve this milestone, the company enhanced the flagship’s powertrain with a dual throttle-body intake design that improves airflow to the engine.

On top of this, the vehicle benefits from NACA brake cooling ducts, an auxiliary engine oil cooler, a rear-axle cooler, and a unique lightweight radiator with better cooling fans to improve endurance and recovery after intense track sessions.

The Dark Horse also comes with unique chassis tuning, larger rear sway bars, 19-inch Brembo piston brakes, and heavy-duty MagneRide front shocks.

The MagneRide shocks are capable of monitoring wheel and tyre movements 1,000 times per second, which optimizes performance based on conditions like the road surface and the selected driving mode.

Additionally, the muscle car is equipped with a Torsen rear differential and Pirelli P Zero tyres that are slightly larger at the back than at the front, which ensures minimal loss of traction while cornering.

In South Africa, the Ford will be exclusively sold with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, meaning we are unfortunately missing out on the six-speed manual offered in other countries.

The Dark Horse’s more intense visual theme is conveyed through a set of 19-inch Tarnished Dark low-gloss alloy wheels, and shadow graphics that surround the darkened LED headlights.

There’s a gloss black grille with trapezoidal nostrils, an exclusive front bumper, lowered side skirts, a racing diffuser, a fixed rear wing, and darkened quad exhaust tips.

Dark Horse badges can be seen on the fenders, boot, door sills, and instrument panel, and an anodized version of the famous Pony logo is proudly displayed on the front grille.

Finishing the look is a unique Blue Ember metallic paint, which can be further customized with an Appearance Package that adds a two-tone black roof, hood graphics, and Notorious Blue brake calipers with Grabber Blue logos.

Shifting focus to the interior, the Mustang features a thick flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in suede with Indigo Blue accent stitching.

The wheel is also fitted with anodized silver paddle shifters and a dedicated Drive Mode button for owners to quickly cycle between their preferred settings such as Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, and Custom.

Each of these modes is conveyed through a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, which complements a 13.2-inch Sync 4 infotainment screen angled towards the driver.

The blue accents found on the wheel can also be seen across the door panels, seats, gearstick, seatbelts, and centre console lining, and other parts of the cabin are finished in Black Alley – a dark metallic gloss that replaces the silver elements seen in the GT.

Rounding off the user experience is a Bang & Olufsen stereo with 12 speakers and a subwoofer, which is sure to add to the audio package delivered by the V8 engine.
