The new Lamborghini Urus SE has officially landed in South Africa, ushering in a new era for the legendary carmaker.
The SE is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), marking the end of pure combustion models for the hugely successful Urus SUV series.
Prices for the new Urus SE start at R4,875,000, making it the most affordable Lamborghini in the country relative to the R7,525,000 Temerario and the R12,800,000 Revuelto.
Orders for the super SUV are now open, and the first deliveries are scheduled to take place in the first half of 2025.
A new chapter for Lamborghini
The beating heart of the SE is 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine, which is complemented by a rear-mounted 141kW electric motor.
This gives the Urus an incredible output of 588kW and 950Nm – a 98kW and 100Nm upgrade from the Performante.
Power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, letting the super SUV sprint to 100km/h in a blistering 3.4 seconds.
It can also reach 200km/h in 11.2 seconds before maxing out at a top speed of 312km/h.
Since it is a PHEV model, the Urus also has a 25.9kWh battery, which affords an all-electric driving range of 60km.
The Italian carmaker claims that the SE’s fuel consumption can go as low as 2.0l/100km on a combined cycle if the PHEV system is fully utilized, but this jumps to 12.9l/100km if owners mainly rely on the V8 powerplant.
With a standard 7.2kW AC wall socket, charging the cell is expected to take around four hours and 20 minutes.
The Lamborghini also has access to six drive modes Strada (Street), Sport, Corsa (Track), Sabbia (Sand), Terra (Off-road), and Neve (Snow), on top of its drivetrain settings for electric, hybrid, recharge, and performance.
The powertrain is not the only thing that has been extensively reworked on the Urus, as the SE features an updated look with a floating bonnet and Matrix LED headlights.
It also has a new rear diffuser, redesigned front and rear bumpers, 21-inch alloy wheels, and new taillamps inspired by the iconic Gallardo.
Inside, the Lamborghini has added anodized aluminium detailing to the various panels, and the infotainment screen has grown in size to 12.3 inches.
Other standout additions include a flat-bottom Sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, a digital driver display, keyless entry and start, leather upholstery with contrast stitching, electric Sports seats, automatic climate control, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, and cruise control.
Buyers can also customize their SUV with a variety of extras such as suede and leather upholstery, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, and a panoramic sunroof.
Each Lamborghini Urus SE is sold with a 3-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, and a 3-year/100,000km maintenance plan.
