The new Ford Mustang has officially hit the roads in South Africa.
The American muscle icon can be yours for R1.3 million on the dot, or if you’re after a more ferocious version, you can wait to scoop up the Dark Horse model that is going on sale in a few months’ time for R1.5 million.
Pricing includes a 4-year/120,000km warranty, a 6-year/90,000km optional service plan, and 4-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.
Seventh-generation ‘Stang
The seventh-gen Mustang flies in the face of electrification as it’s delivered with Ford’s famous 5.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, Coyote V8 petrol engine that generates a hulking 328kW and 540Nm, making it the most powerful GT model to date.
The powerplant is mated exclusively to a 10-speed automatic gearbox in South Africa which channels drive to the rear axle, and pilots have at their disposal six driving modes comprising Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, and Track, as well as a customizable option with up to six different profiles.
The 100km/h dash takes just 4.9 seconds in the hefty 1.8-tonne fastback and it tops out at a generous 250km/h.
The South African units are also delivered as standard with the Performance Pack, which adds a front suspension tower brace, a Torsen limited-slip differential, MagneRide active suspension, wider rear wheels and tyres, and 390mm front and 355mm rear Brembo brakes.
Another sporty inclusion is a segment-first electronic drift brake that enables users to take advantage of the muscle car’s rear-wheel drifting capabilities in the style of a traditional mechanical handbrake.
Of course, it comes with a hearty active valve performance exhaust, too, with several sound profiles ranging from quiet to raucous.
Inside, the driver-centric cockpit is kitted with a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a 13.2-inch infotainment screen huddled under one curved housing on the dash.
Furthermore, the fresh-faced ‘Stang gets heated and ventilated seats wrapped in Black Onyx leather with accented stitching, a flat-bottom racing steering wheel, a wireless charger, automatic climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, overhead USB ports for accessories like track cameras, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo.
It is also equipped with advanced assistance functions such as speed sign recognition, intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, lane-centering assist, evasive steer assist, and reverse brake assist.
The only optional extras buyers can choose from encompass six paint colours namely Absolute Black, Atlas Blue, Dark Matter Grey Metallic, Iconic Silver, Lucid Red, Oxford White, Race Red, and Vapor Blue; as well as machined 19-inch Tarnished Dark Aluminium wheels.
