Best-selling cars in South Africa

The Toyota Hilux came out on top in October’s new-vehicle sales charts with a healthy 2,793 transactions, putting it just under 500 units above second place, the venerable VW Polo Vivo, which scored 2,297 customers.

Completing the rostrum was Ford’s evergreen Ranger which saw 2,217 units rolling out of showroom doors, and it was tailed in fourth by the Toyota Corolla Cross which managed 2,104 sales.

In fifth sat the Isuzu D-Max with a respectable 1,807 units moved, followed by the VW Polo with 1,425 units, and the Toyota Starlet with 1,358.

Compact cars seemed to enjoy favour in the eyes of consumers in October as the eighth position was snapped up by the Hyundai Grand i10 owing to its 1,280 registrations.

The siblings of the Suzuki Swift and Fronx occupied ninth and 10th, respectively, bringing in 1,179 and 1,109 purchases.

Breaking into the top 20, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro landed 11th with 1,079 units sold, and it was also the last new car to move past the 1,000-unit barrier.

The Renault Kwid climbed to the 12th position with 934 buyers secured, with the Toyota Fortuner coming in just behind it with 905 buyers.

The Haval Jolion drove away with the 14th spot and 886 models sold, after which came the Nissan Magnite with 854 models, the Suzuki Ertiga with 846, and the Toyota Starlet Cross with 805.

The last new vehicles to crack the ranks were the Kia Sonet, Mahindra Pik Up, and Toyota Vitz, which attained 787, 709, and 676 sales, respectively.

Combined, the top 20 best-selling models last month brought in 26,050 sales, or roughly 54% of the total of 47,942 new-vehicle registrations in the country.
