Porsche has unveiled the new Taycan 4 and Taycan GTS, completing the rollout of the second-generation Taycan series in the process.
In South Africa, the electric sports cars will retail from R3,006,000 for the 4 and R3,938,000 for the GTS, which includes a 3-year/100,000km Driveplan.
The newcomers can now be ordered with deliveries scheduled to commence in early 2025.
The introduction of the 4 and GTS brings the Taycan family up to 11 individual specifications in the domestic market.
Taycan 4
The Taycan 4 is the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of the regular rear-wheel-motivated (RWD) Taycan, sporting two electric motors instead of one with a maximum output of 300kW, rising to 320kW when Launch Control is activated.
Resultantly, the AWD Taycan sprints to 100km/h in a brisk 4.6 seconds, an improvement of 0.2 seconds compared to its RWD counterpart.
Likewise, two batteries are available in the sports sedan, the Performance battery with a maximum range of 559km and the Performance Plus battery that boosts potential to 643km.
Thanks to the refined AWD system the 4 is now also more efficient than it has ever been. When conditions allow, it can electrically decouple the front e-motor in favour of greater range, and switch it back on again in within milliseconds when needed, for example when accelerating or recuperating.
The Porsche Traction Management programme and adaptive air suspension with active suspension management are additionally fitted as standard.
Externally, the Taycan 4 is delivered from the factory with 19-inch aero wheels and black brake callipers, as well as Matrix LED headlights.
Moving inside, it receives eight-way electric Comfort, the Dark Silver accent package, a leather multifunction Sports steering wheel, brushed silver aluminium door entry guards, and the Sound Package Plus.
The standard partial leather upholstery comes in black but is also available in Slate Grey and a two-tone Black/Chalk Beige.
Taycan GTS
The GTS is billed as the sporty all-rounder in the Taycan lineage.
It impresses with a total power output of 515kW – 75kW more than its predecessor – with a further 70kW of Boost available for 10 seconds at the push of a button.
The 100km/h landmark is smashed in just 3.3 seconds at full tilt and it surpasses 200km/h in a rapid 10.4 seconds.
Driving range has also been improved by over 120km to reach a generous maximum of 628km.
Underpinning the electric four-door is a GTS-specific chassis and adaptive air suspension setup lending it a more responsive handling profile than the models positioned below it.
Furthermore, the GTS gets a “more distinctive sound profile” analogous to the range-topping Taycan Turbo S that further elevates it above its more affordable siblings.
Buyers have the option of installing rear-axle steering as well as the Porsche Active Ride suspension control system with GTS-specific tuning at an additional cost should they desire an even sharper-handling sedan.
The exterior design of the GTS is distinctive in that it boasts numerous Black or Anthracite Grey details, Sport design front and rear aprons with high-gloss black inlays, high-gloss black exterior mirror bases, and 20-inch Taycan Turbo S Aero Design wheels.
Many of the hallmarks of the cabin have also been adopted from the Taycan Turbo GT models.
For example, the GTS comes standard with extended application of the sporty Race-Tex material and more elements in smooth black leather.
Additionally included are the 18-way electric Adaptive Sports Seats Plus, the GT multifunction sports steering wheel with heating, a Bose surround sound system, as well as the Sport Chrono package that brings a push-to-pass function and track mode.
