The updated Nissan Magnite has arrived in South Africa, bringing several enhancements to the carmaker’s most popular model.
The crossover’s revised line-up now consists of nine variants, and prices start at R246,200 – only R1,400 more than the outgoing units.
Features
Nissan has made some minor changes to the Magnite’s appearance, starting with a new black outline around the grille’s chrome accents.
The front bumper is also more prominent with new trapezium-shaped surrounds for the low-mounted fog lights, and there are new LED taillamps at the back.
Depending on the trim level, you’ll also see a selection of new two-tone alloy rims measuring 16 inches in diametre.
In addition, buyers have a choice of 11 different paint schemes, including six dual-tone options with a black roof.
As for the crossover’s equipment, the base Visia now comes standard with six airbags instead of two, as well as LED daytime running lights, all-electric windows, electric side mirrors, a multifunction steering wheel, cloth seats, six speakers, a 12V socket, automatic air conditioning, hill assist, ABS, tyre-pressure monitoring, and rear parking sensors.
The mid-range Acenta will throw in keyless entry and start, LED headlights, an anti-dazzle rearview mirror, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, an air purifier for the aircon, a reverse camera, and an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The turbocharged version of the Acenta also has access to cruise control and a leather steering wheel.
As for the top-spec Acenta Plus, it features new two-tone brown/black leatherette upholstery, as well as ambient lighting, a cooled glove box, and a 360-degree camera.
The Magnite also has a boot that can accommodate up to 336 litres of cargo.
Engines
Since it’s an update and not a new generation, the Nissan’s powertrain selection is unchanged.
The starter pack is a 1.0-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that puts out 53kW and 96Nm.
This can either be paired to a five-speed manual gearbox, or a five-speed “EZ-Shift” automated manual transmission (AMT), with fuel consumption averaging 5.9l/100km.
The alternative is a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol plant with a greater output of 74kW and 160Nm.
This drivetrain is also available with the manual box, though the AMT option is replaced by a CVT transmission instead.
Fuel usage for the turbo units works out to 5.2l/100km on the manual, and 6.0l/100km for the CVT.
