More affordable Peugeot Landtrek launched in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Peugeot has expanded its Landtrek bakkie range in South Africa with the launch of three new derivatives, including a single cab.

The Landtrek will be one of the French carmaker’s most important products going forward, as it will soon be built at a new factory right here in the Eastern Cape.

Peugeot has therefore elected to widen the appeal of the pickup with new units aimed at the commercial sector that start at R388,900 – reducing the base price of the Landtrek by a substantial R243,000.

Specifications

The new models have added two additional trim levels the the range – Professional and Active – joining the existing Allure and 4Action.

Despite their lower price tags, the 1.9-litre turbo-charged diesel engine is shared across the lineup, producing a total of 110kW and 350Nm.

Both Professional models are rear-wheel-drive (2WD), while the Active is the only new entry to offer a four-wheel-drive (4WD) system.

All three commercial variants are then fitted with a new six-speed manual gearbox, in contrast to the six-speed auto used by the Allure and 4Action.

Regarding fuel consumption, the 2WD models average 8.9l/100km, while the 4WD option uses a slightly higher 9.1l/100km.

Every Landtrek is capable of towing up to 3,000kg, and the new single cab naturally has the highest load-carrying capacity of 1,210kg, compared to the double cab’s 1,020kg.

Moving on to their equipment sheets, the commercial-spec Professional and Active understandably have a more spartan offering than their lifestyle counterparts.

The base Professional is fitted with 16-inch steel wheels, electric windows, central locking, cloth seats, manual aircon, two speakers, a radio, Bluetooth, a multifunction steering wheel, dual front airbags, and ABS.

The Active will then throw in larger 17-inch rims, fog lamps, power-adjustable side mirrors, two more speakers, front-side airbags, and rear parking sensors.

Pricing

The South African pricing for the updated Peugeot Landtrek range is as follows:

  • Peugeot Landtrek 1.9TD Single Cab Professional – R388,900 (new)
  • Peugeot Landtrek 1.9TD Double Cab Professional – R454,900 (new)
  • Peugeot Landtrek 1.9TD Double Cab Active 4×4 – R545,900 (new)
  • Peugeot Landtrek 1.9TD Double Cab Allure – R631,900
  • Peugeot Landtrek 1.9TD Double Cab 4Action 4×4 – R719,900

This includes a 5-year/100,000km warranty. Note that only the Allure and 4Action are sold with a 5-year/100,000km service plan, which is optional on the other units.
