R3.6-million Shelby Super Snake goes on sale in South Africa – With only 3 on offer

Shelby has debuted the new Shelby Super Snake in South Africa, based on the recently released seventh-generation Ford Mustang.

The muscle car benefits from wide-ranging functional and aesthetic upgrades including a supercharger for its brutish V8 engine, making this Super Snake the most powerful of its kind ever produced.

Shelby South Africa has been allocated three conversion kits to transform the Mustang to Shelby Super Snakes as part of the initial batch.

Pricing is currently pegged at R3,640,000 which includes the cost of the base vehicle, however, the final price may vary based on exchange-rate fluctuations.

Upon delivery, each of the three local examples will be documented in the official Shelby Registry.

“We set out to make the 2025 Ford Mustang the most technically sophisticated Shelby Super Snake in history,” said Vince La Violette, Shelby American Vice President of Operations and Senior Designer.

“Through careful engineering, we were able to add much more power while working to keep the weight more balanced.”

Supercharged Super Snake

The Shelby Super Snake is driven by a supercharged version of the famous 5.0-litre Coyote V8 powerplant with bespoke tuning and upgraded performance components, which has seen its maximum output jump to 619kW, up from 328kW in the standard Mustang GT.

To deliver consistent performance and reliability, it is equipped with the Shelby Extreme Cooling System which comprises a new radiator and heat exchanger.

Heightened control and handling are brought about by a custom suspension system as well as 20-inch forged magnesium wheels wrapped in Shelby performance tyres, in addition to upgraded performance half shafts and hardened extended wheel studs.

Accompanying the powerful performance is the signature growl of the Shelby by Borla exhaust system, designed to offer unrestricted airflow and an aggressive engine note.

The company hasn’t revealed the 0-100km/h acceleration time nor the top speed of the new Super Snake, though both should be far superior to the 4.9 seconds and 250km/h of the GT.

Cosmetic upgrades on the new Shelby encompass a vented aluminium hood with hood pins and carbon fibre widebody front fenders.

New upper, lower, and outboard grilles, along with front splitter supports, further optimise airflow and cooling.

It also wears new carbon fibre splitter wickers, a side rocker assembly with carbon fibre rocker wickers, and a rear ducktail spoiler.

The carbon fibre Super Snake rear wing and carbon fibre rear lower diffuser work in tandem to improve downforce and airflow management at high speeds.

Finally, Super Snake stripes and badges, along with deep tinted windows, provide the finishing touches.

As an option, buyers can tick the box on Shelby badging and striping to make their Super Snake even more visually striking.

The interior of the new Shelby is equally exhilarating, featuring exclusive seat inserts, embroidered floor mats, Super Snake door sill plates, and serialised dash and engine plaques.

It also comes with Cobra puddle lamps that project the iconic emblem when the doors open, adding a sense of occasion.
